Why Music?
Use Music to Teach!
Music is a universal language central to every culture of the world. It has been used to entertain, communicate, educate, inspire, and instill a sense of social and communal understanding. Rhyme, rhythm, song and movement have historically been used as powerful teaching tools that have infused the values, mores and customs of cultures and societies. Research evidence now suggests that the musical arts are central to the cognitive process and dramatically impact the functions and systems responsible for all learning. The human body is more than 70% water. It is a perfect conductor of vibration. Rhythmic patterns and sound waves have profound effects on the body and emotional states. Isolated tones, scales and simple tonal sequences have all been found to have an energizing effect on the body. Music changes the metabolism, affecting muscular energy by raising or lowering blood pressure. The heart, which normally beats between 70-80 times per minute, can be regulated by listening to faster or slower tempos. Music reduces mental fatigue, calms tension, focuses thinking and greatly impacts creativity and sensitivity. Listening to music also stimulates the release of endorphins which are produced in the brain to relieve pain and produce a euphoric state.

Teaching and Learning Strategies Accelerated Learning Techniques
Accelerated Learning by Bobbi DePorter Many people think of Accelerated Learning as any activity that speeds up the learning process. Such things as studying in groups and occasional activities may increase learning, but as valuable as these teaching tools may be, true Accelerated Learning methodology is much more than that. Accelerated Learning is a systematic approach to teaching the whole person, containing specific core elements that, when used together, empower students to learn faster, more effectively and joyfully. To occasionally turn on a baroque tape or hang a few posters is to use but a few elements of the whole process. To get the most from Accelerated Learning you need to know how and when to use each element and understand the theory behind it. Developed in the 1970s, Accelerated Learning is based on the work of Dr. Georgi Lozanov, a professor of psychiatry and psychotherapy from Bulgaria now living in Austria. His early program, which focused on teaching a foreign language, included relaxation, visual arts and music. Students learned from one hundred to one thousand new vocabulary words a day with ninety-eight percent retention or better. He called his new method Suggestology, based on the theory that suggestions can and do affect the outcome of learning.

Brain Food
The brain is a marvelous gift from our creator. It contains a wide array of tools and resources to help us learn and grow. The more we apply what we know about the brain when designing learning activities, the easier it will be for our participants to grasp new information and acquire new skills. The average human brain weighs 3 - 5 pounds, representing about 2% of the body's total weight. It consumes 20% of body's oxygen and has 12,000 - 15,000 million nerve cells (about 3X the earth's population). Return to Menu
Brain Waves
In a state of heightened relaxation, the optimal state for learning, the pattern in which the brain vibrates is the Alpha Wave with 8 - 12 cycles per second. The energy and heightened awareness that are released when we stimulate the brain help us take full advantage of its powers. One of the limitations of relying on the lecture as the main method of instruction is that learners remain passive for extended periods. This provides the brain with little stimulation and makes it difficult for participants to maintain the heightened level of alertness that is required for learning.

How to Learn Anything You Want to One of the things that is often said to me as I teach Accelerated Learning techniques and principles in both education and business is something along the lines of : "Well I have tried that and it doesn't work for me" or "I can see how these techniques work but I don't know if I want to put the effort in to learn how to use them".
It often amazes me that people get hooked on the process rather than the result. In my mind, to be a really effective learner, you need to know:
1. Exactly what it is you want to learn,
2. The level of proficiency you want to achieve in your subject or skill
3. A deep understanding of the reason why you want to do it and its importance to you.
If you have those things clear in your own mind then the process does not matter because you will do anything to achieve your goal as long as it works. Now all of the techniques that I talk about work. Some may require more effort than others to get to work but they do all work. What may be easy for one person to use may be very difficult for the next but if you are focussed on the result and it is an important outcome for you, then you will do W.E.I.T. (Whatever it Takes).

57. Accelerated Learning And YOU
What went wrong? There is so much to teach in such a short periodof time. accelerated learning is the next step in education.
http://www.learnalanguage.com/2DayCourse/page2.htm
TOM MADDEN A degree in psychology, a thesis on Accelerated Learning, an author and over twenty years of training, support claims that Tom is one of the world's leading trainers in Accelerated Learning methodology. An acclaimed international speaker, his seminar portfolio includes Advanced Training for Teachers, which he designed and delivers on behalf of the American Management Association. In an environment where success is measured by repeat business, this program is regarded as the standard.
"How can I get students to retain the lessons?"
"I have students coloring in the pictures instead of listening to the lecture. How can I keep them focused?"
"I have tried playing games. Everybody had fun, but nobody remembered the lesson. What went wrong?"
"There is so much to teach in such a short period of time. How can I possibly get all of this across to the students?"
Many experienced educators have asked the above questions. What worked in the past does not seem to work as well today. Educators are expected to do more with significantly less. The entire system is quite frustrating.
Accelerated Learning is the "next step" in education.
