My Dog has had Addison for 5 years. she was originally on Florinef , 6 pill a day. Now is taking a shot once a month and just take 2.5 mg of predizone twice a day and you would never know she is sick. If you are interested you can EM me and I will get the name of the shot. She has been on it for about 6-8 months.

DAX-1 protein is expressed in the developing urogenital ridge, ovary, testis, adrenal cortex, hypothalamus and anterior pituitary. SF-1 is essential for the development of adrenal cortex, gonads and ventromedial nucleus of the hypothalamus. Product of the fushi tarazu factor-1 (FTZ-F!) gene which maps to 9q33. SF-1 response elements found in the promoters of the genes for the a -subunits of the pituitary glycoprotein hormones, mullerian-inhibiting substance and the promoter of the DAX-1 gene. Posted by Julie on July 13, 2001 at 09:31:19: I have recenlty been diagnosed with adrenal exhaustion through the use of adrenocortex stress and female hormone profiles as well as various blood tests, and have been researching the condition before I go back to my Dr. to discuss treatment. I have noticed that the terms adrenal exhaustion, adrenal hypofunction and Addisions desease seem to be used interchangeably in the Merk manual and other resources. Are these terms synonomous? I am also being treated for reflux, parixsysmal atria tachycardia, migraines etc., and have had multiple benign cysts (9) surgically removed over the last 20 years. I am wondering most about a large lemon sized cyst removed from my optic nerve as this was very close to the pituitary gland and how this may have caused or could be interacting with the adrenal and hormone problems I am experiencing now. I am also wondering if/how the current medications I am taking for PAT, migrains etc. may be interacting or exasterbating the adrenal and hormone problems I am experiencing and whether I actually have these other conditions or whether these are actually symptoms of the adrenal exhaustion. Would you please advise regarding good questions I need to ask my Dr. and how I might better educate myself on treatment options and drug interactions?

    Addison's Disease
Addisons Disease is a rare endocrine, or hormonal disorder that affects about 1 in 100,000 people. It occurs in all age groups and afflicts men and women equally. The disease is characterized by weight loss, muscle weakness, fatigue, low blood pressure, and sometimes darkening of the skin in both exposed and nonexposed parts of the body. It occurs when the adrenal glands do not produce enough of the hormone cortisol and in some cases, the hormone aldosterone. For this reason, the disease is sometimes called chronic adrenal insufficiency, or hypocortisolism. Seek Wellness Addison's Disease Australian Addison's Disease Association NADF ... ADSHG

    Does your Dane have Arthritis?
I highly recommend liquid glucosamine formula Syn-flex for anyone whose dog is suffering from arthritis or hip dysplasia. Syn-flex is a high-quality liquid which offers a 98% absorption rate.
By contrast, glucosamine pills and capsules deliver glucosamine in powder form, which has an absorption rate of about 11-20%.
II've tried various brands of glucosamine/chondriotin pills on my eight-year-old Great Dane and he didn't get the relief we were looking for until I switched to Syn-flex. Merlin is feeling much better now, and I'm completely sold on the product!
