Competencies in curriculum areas, such as life skills, mathematics and communication skills including speaking, reading, writing, and listening are provided in this program, in addition to pre-vocational and academic training.
Regular scheduled programs in Adult Basic Education, English as a Second Language and Adult Special Education, are offered at several centres including Kalamalka (Vernon), Kelowna, Penticton, Salmon Arm and Revelstoke. http://www.stmattsmapleglen.org/adult.htm
Adults have numerous opportunities at St. Matthew's through which to explore the Christian faith and life: Sunday Morning Adult Series at 10:30 . . . In 2003 the class will move through the Biblical topics of the Prophets, Praying the Psalms, The Gospels, and the Acts of the Apostles, explained below. The Rector will launch each topic with a keynote address, followed in succeeding weeks with in depth group response and discussion. The Psalms served as the hymnal and prayerbook of the people of Israel. The expression of human emotion expressed runs from the greatest joy to deepest desolation, from overflowing thanksgiving to quiet consolation. The class will explore the riches of the psalter and practice the use of the psalms as a springboard for our own prayerful response to life.
The Acts of the Apostles: May 4, May 18, June 1 and June 8. Wednesdays In Lent On the five Wednesday evenings following Ash Wednesday we gather for a simple meal and to feed our faith, beginning at 6:30 p.m. After supper, sessions for children and adults follow (including child care for youngsters up to age five), concluding with the brief prayer office of Compline at 8:00 p.m.
