The student success plan
Every student will have access to comprehensive adult education programs
The OSSTF Student Success Plan ensures that every Ontario citizen can earn a high school diploma. It means a real second chance for every learner to become a better earner or to enter College or University better prepared. The more we help adults re-enter public schools, the more Ontario's economy benefits. Until 1996 all secondary students in Ontario were treated equally, regardless of age. All students received the same funding for attending school. Then the government changed its funding formula. OSSTF supports restoring funding for adult and alternative education programs to their 1996 levels. Restoring funding to these programs saves taxpayers money in the long run. A 1996 survey of adult day students found that 48% were trying to get off government assistance and that 83% of graduates successfully found jobs or went on to further education. The current grant for a student under the age of 21 is $7096. At age 21, the grant falls to $2294. What a difference a day makes!

News and Features
At Rockport College, each student is free to search for his or her own voice while working to master the craft to express that voice. It is this process of mastering the craft and the development of a visual voice and personal aesthetic that is the core of the learning experience at this institution. The writer Chris Keane explains it this way: "Some people say you cannot teach anyone to be a writer [or a photographer or filmmaker]. Artistically that's true. Craftwise it isn't. Art needs a home, which is craft. Craft is a place where art can live and grow, find its natural structure, its world." But craft, without passion, without a story, is the work of a technician. It is our mission at Rockport College to nurture today's and tomorrow's storytellers and imagemakers through their developmental years, to lead, encourage, inspire and challenge them as they proceed along their individual paths to successful careers.
