Until recently, the history of those cultures has been largely ignored by modern civilization. Harder - Africa has been called the "birthplace of the human race." The oldest evidence of human-like creatures and people found anywhere in the world are the bones and other fossils discovered at many sites in eastern and southern Africa. From this evidence, most scientists have concluded that the earliest human beings lived about 2 million years ago in eastern Africa. The crude stone tools made by these people gave the Stone Age its name. In time, the Stone Age culture spread to other continents. The fertile soils of the Nile Valley supported some of the earliest and richest farming com

Politics and Religion in Ancient Civilizations
send me this essay

A 5 page paper which compares and contrasts the relationship between politics and religion in the ancient civilizations of the Near East, Egypt, Greece, Rome, Orient and India. There are many similarities in each of these ancient civilizations considering it was a time when religion was the most important aspect of life for most of these people. ANCIENT EGYPT AND NUBIA
The southern boundary of ancient Egypt at Aswan (the site of the modern High Dam) separated it from Nubia. In these adjacent sections of the lower Nile Valley, distinct ancient cultures can be traced in the archaeological record as far back as the fifth m illennium b.c. Primarily, these separate cultural identities, which persisted throughout antiquity, reflect the presence of different population groups, but Egypt and Nubia were also affected by important differences in their physical environments. King Pepy I Making an Offering
Egypt, 6th Dynasty, reign of Pepy I, ca. 2289-2255 B.C. Graywacke (schist), 15.2 cm. high. The Brooklyn Museum, New York, Charles Edwin Wilbour Fund. Egypt's part of the Nile Valley was far more fertile for agriculture; moreover, its location at the northeast corner of Africa gave it access, in addition to contacts with the south, to the rest of northern Africa and the Near East, and to goods and ideas that helped to stimulate its rise as one of the earliest great civilizations. By about 4500 b.c., the inhabitants of that part of the Nile Valley had begun to develop, by continuous and gradually accelerating stages, a complex society based on the efficient management of land and other resources, sophisticated technical skills, and the beginnings of hieroglyphic writing. Shortly before 3000 b.c., this process culminated in the unification of the entire land under a single ruler, an event that the Egyptians considered the beginning of their dynastic history. For the next three thous and years, Egypt was to remain a major cultural-and often military-power. Today, we are still impressed by the rich legacy of this extraordinary civilization: huge structures, extensive written records, diverse artistic achievements, such as portraits car ved in stone, and spectacular goldwork.

The PREMIER JOURNEY to The Ancient World, weaving together the Peoples of those lands and civilizations and the way they lived and - their thoughts, their hopes, their dreams, their lives.
What is the Ancient World? Greece, Rome, Egypt, Mesopotamia, Babylon, Sumer, Nubia, Persia, Byzantium, Turkey? Or is it Assyrians, Chaldeans, Hebrews, Hittites, Akkadians, Etruscans, Minoans? Is it Alexander, Plato, Virgil, Socrates, Hammurabi, Aristotle, Nefertiti, the Pharaohs, Emperors, Caesar, Cleopatra, Sargon, Akhenaton, the Black Athena, Homer? Or is it the dinosaurs, Stonehenge, hunters, slaves, women, rulers, soldiers, or the Iliad, the Aeneid, the Odyssey, the Olympics? Is it found in the ruins, temples, forums, pyramids or in the remnants of ordinary life? Explore through this Web Book and the Online College Course. Ancient Civilization did not begin in what we think of as the West. It did not start in Paris or Berlin or London or Prague or Brussels or Stockholm. It grew out of the Mediterranean breezes, the sun and desert of Northern Africa, the Persian and West Asian lands. To study Ancient Civilization is to travel - across parts of Africa, southern Europe, the Middle East, and Asia to India. It is a linking voyage, not a reducing trip. It CONNECTS peoples, ideas, patterns, developments, organizations, wars, religions, art, architecture, food and drink. It is a human endeavor about a human story.
