In the past too much emphasis has been placed on the supply side alone in selecting and designing appropriate machinery.
AGSE has organized different training and workshops on selection, testing and evaluation, targeted at test engineers and policy makers. Principals and practices are described in AGS bulletin

To meet student s' needs, instruction in agriculture is offered in College-Tech-Prep Blocks. Students in five technology areas work together on projects that benefit all with hands-on activities and industry visits. Teachers from these technology areas, along with academic teachers, cooperatively plan instructional strategies to improve the learning opportunities for the students. Students at Clay work with challenging and unique activities such as a frog survey project, school wetlands project, fall harvest pumpkin sale and aquaculture project. Each activity is based on student career interests in specific areas demanding experiences beyond the classroom. The Oregon-Clay FFA website can be found at

Agricultural Research Resources at the University of Illinois Archives
    College of Agriculture
When it opened in 1868, the College of Agriculture drew many students from farm backgrounds, but few majored in agriculture. Newspapers, county fairs, and equipment manufacturers were transforming the pattern of general subsistence farming to regional specialization dependent on railroads for marketing farm products in urban areas. At the same time, advances in scientific and technical knowledge were laying the basis for university level teaching and research. The college Subject Files, 1888-1983 (Record Series 8/1/1-2, 4-5; 284 cubic feet) document the administration of the college and the development of Illinois agriculture. They are supplemented by Faculty Minutes, 1900-90 (RS 8/1/3,10; 4 c.f.), a Budget File, 1922-55 (RS 8/1/6; 5 c.f.) and a Personnel File, 1906-85 (RS 8/1/14; 90 c.f.). Additional material on leadership is found in the papers of Deans Eugene V. Davenport, 1857-1954 (RS 8/1/21; 10 c.f.), Herbert W. Mumford, 1907-38 (RS 8/1/22; 1 c.f.), Henry P. Rusk, 1910-53, (RS 8/1/23; 1 c.f.) and Orville G. Bentley, 1947-83 (RS 8/1/24, 17 c.f.). The International Programs File, 1952-75 (RS 8/1/44; 11 c.f.) relates primarily to programs in India. Two files record historical activities of the college for 1904-75 (RS 8/1/17, 51; 4 c.f.). The archives also holds the Subject File of the College of Veterinary Medicine, 1977-63 (RS 17/1/1; 20 c.f.). Fifty-six published records relate to program development (8), academic affairs (13), extension (5), alumni (1), publicity (3), committees and faculty (7), and international programs (19).
