Search This Site Environment Brookmans Park is surrounded by green belt land. Much of the responsibility for maintaining the woodlands, fields and pathways in and around the village falls to three main groups, North Mymms Parish Council , for the roads, pathways, verges and Gobions Open Space, Gobions Woodland Trust , for the woodland south of Gobions Open Space, and the farmers and residents whose property borders the village. The North Mymms Green Belt Society acts as a pressure group and monitors planning applications which could threaten the character of the village and surrounding area. The Society now has its own site which is regularly updated. This site has an interactive Forum where you can have your say about environmental issues. Gobions Woodland Trust Friends' Report 2001
This report featured 49 species of flowering herbs and shrubs seen during a short survey from Gobions Open Space car park through Gobions Woodland and back in April 2002. Illustrations have been added to the text submitted by Brenda Harold's WEA class, which carried out the survey. The report also includes an illustration and description of the geometry of Charles Bridgeman's design for Gobions and explains the significance of Gladiator, Hercules, Cleopatra, the urn, the temple and the obelisk. It also includes proposals, set out by the Woodland Trust for its second Heritage Lottery Fund application.

    NITRATE POLLUTION OF WATER BY AGRICULTURE
    Stay informed - Sign up for our email alert service Nitrate levels in many English waters, both ground and surface waters, are increasing. Nitrate pollution is of concern because it has to be removed before water can be supplied to consumers, and it can harm the water environment. Over 70% of nitrate enters water from agricultural land. The following pages provide details of action to reduce agricultural nitrate pollution, which is one aspect of the broader problem of diffuse pollution from agriculture. We are also taking action to reduce similar pollution from other sources. For example, the Urban Waste Water Treatment Regulations 1994 aim to reduce pollution, including nitrate pollution, from sewage treatment works and industry.

    • Contains a brief descriptive statement;
    • Indicates the primary party or parties that might be affected; and
    • Identifies contacts in state agencies that are responsible for implementation and enforcement.
    In addition, North Carolina Cooperative Extension resources providing educational information about the issue and the legislation, rules and regulations that address that issue are listed (under construction).
    • Surface Water Quality Regulations of sources of pollution of lakes, rivers, and other surface waters.
    • Point Source Pollution A specific discharge that is traceable to a distinct source (pipe, ditch, container, etc.), such as those from wastewater treatment plants or industrial facilities. Point source discharges are not allowed in North Carolina without a National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit from the state.
    • Non-Point Source Pollution Sources of water pollution not associated with a distinct discharge source; includes rainwater, erosion, runoff from roads, farms, and parking lots, and seepage from soil-based wastewater disposal systems.
