(Updated January 8, 2003 Dulles Airport Passenger Advisory Boarding Passes Required Beginning December 16
Due to the mulitiple security layers that TSA (Transportation Security Administration) has implemented recently, random secondary gate screening has been reduced. The security improvement program is designed to conduct both selectee searches and most random searches at the checkpoints where TSA staff and screening equipment are concentrated. In keeping with the TSA's multi-level security system, mobile teams of TSA screeners will chose passengers at random for screening at the gates.
In order to implement the program, beginning December 16th at Dulles Airport , the TSA will require passengers to have a boarding pass that contains important screening information. Passengers should be advised that E-ticket receipts, itineraries and vouchers will no longer provide access through the security checkpoints. In addition to having a boarding pass, passengers must show a valid government issued photo ID, such as a driver's license or passport. Boarding passes can be obtained at the ticket counter, through airline computer kiosks, or at skycap curbside check-in booths.

Honolulu International Airport is the major aviation gateway for the State of Hawaii. It is the primary hub for domestic overseas and interisland flights and is currently one of three State airports accommodating international flights. Honolulu International also functions as a joint military-civilian airport sharing airfield facilities with Hickam Air Force Base.
The Airport occupies 2,216 acres of land and 2,210 acres of water about three miles west of Downtown Honolulu, and seven miles from Waikiki. The airfield consists of two parallel east-west runways, two parallel crosswind runways, associated taxiways and navigational aids. Facilities include a complex of general aviation, air cargo, and airport support facilities at the south Ramp near Ke'ehi Lagoon and the passenger terminal complex at the North Ramp. A complex of maintenance and air cargo facilities, principally for the interisland airlines, is located west of the terminal complex.
In ancient times, Oahu was called the 'gathering place'. Voyaging canoes from all other islands would meet on Oahu's shores. Today Oahu is again the 'gathering place' that includes visitors from around the world. The voyaging concept, therefore, is particularly appropriate as a metaphor for travel in the Honolulu International Airport, the major airport of entry and departure for the Hawaiian Islands. It provides a link between the travel of the early Hawaiians and the visitor today.

    John Cletheroe's
    USA and Canada Holiday Hints
Airports - International Arrivals And Departures - Which Terminal?
    Introduction
Most large airports in the USA and Canada have separate terminals for each airline or group of airlines. International airports, with immigration and customs facilities, tend to also have a separate international terminal.
    International Arrivals
There is always a potential for confusion as to whether international arrivals draw up to the airline's own terminal or the airport's international terminal. At some airports incoming international flights draw up to the relevant airline's own terminal but passengers then have to take a bus to the international terminal. The return flight departs from the airline's own terminal with no need for departing passengers to visit the international terminal, since there are no customs formalities on leaving the USA other than for the airline check-in clerk to remove the card stapled into your passport by the immigration officer when you entered the country. Virgin Atlantic used this system at Los Angeles International Airport some years ago but I do not know if it is still used, whether it applies to any other airlines, or whether it is used at any other airports. Some international airlines (including KLM) use Terminal 2 at LAX, which has its own immigration and customs facilities, for both arrivals and departures. At some airports, after passing through immigration and customs in the international terminal passengers must then take a transit system (subway, etc) from the international terminal to the main terminal. At some airports hold baggage must be handed over for separate handling during this journey and reclaimed a second time at the main terminal.
