The Native American History Archive (NAHA)
Created in 1995 by Institute for Learning Technologies staff member Richard Calton, the Native American History Archive (NAHA) was an important early experiment in designing an online educational portal devoted to Native American resources for the use of K-12 teachers and students. However, because it has been many years since the site was updated and improved, we have elected to remove NAHA from ILT Web.
For information on online resources concerning Native Americans we recommend that you visit: NativeWeb: Resources for Indigenous Cultures Around the World Developed by a group of historians, independent scholars, and activists, NativeWeb offers a gateway to more than 4,000 historical and contemporary resources relating to over 250 separate nations. http://www.nativeweb.org
Richard Calton is now directing HarlemLive ( http://www.harlemlive.org ), ILT's award-winning online youth magazine. Visit our Homepage to find out more about the Institute for Learning Technologies ( http://www.ilt.columbia.edu

  • The tunes here were not all written by Americans, but are songs that were known in America. Most songs of the Colonial and Revoltionary Era were songs that originated in England, Scotland and Ireland and immigrated with their people.
  • These dates are, of course, not perfect. I have struggled to put them in APPROXIMATE/BEST GUESS date order. If you have an educated correction, please let me know. A few tunes are listed more than once to make clear they were popular in several eras.
