Room 2 Crocker Farm School - Mrs. Streeter's Class Room 2's Writing Animal Reports Drawing Map ... Comments Anaconda by Israel I chose the anaconda because its name is from India. Did you know that the anaconda can eat some animals that are bigger than him? Name
The anaconda snake is from the family of reptiles. The anaconda's scientific name is Eunectes murinus . Like all reptiles, it is cold-blooded. Snakes like the anaconda breathe oxygen from the air. The anaconda lives in the water and on land. It can hold its breath under water for about ten minutes. Some snakes that are related to the anaconda are the boa constrictor, python, and king snake. Description
The anaconda is hard to see because it likes to hide under bushes. Its color is green with big black spots. There is a yellow anaconda too, also with black spots. Its head is narrow with a fat body. Like all reptiles, it is covered with scales. The length of anacondas can often reach 29 feet. It can weigh 300 to 500 pounds. Female anacondas give birth to 20 to 40 babies at one time. The babies are born live, while most snakes are hatched from eggs. They can live for 30 years. Habitat
The anaconda lives in the jungle in South America, in the Guianas, east of the Andes Mountains, and mainly in the Amazon and Orinoco River regions. They like the wet, dense tropical vegetation. They do well in warm, dark, freshwater swamps. They also like to rest in the sun.

later get his wish in From Dusk Till Dawn 2
If there were one thing a movie could do to get on our bad side, it would be killing off our favorite character in the film in the first scene. It happened in Robin Hood Prince of Thieves , when Brian Blessed picked up a big sword to fight the bad guys, and was seen later only as a hanging corpse. It happened again in Congo when Bruce Campbell was killed by a POV shot mere minutes after the trailers ended. Now we have Anaconda , which teases us with the presence of Danny Trejo. Sadly, Danny's character puts a gun to his head before anybody else in the cast even shows up. If this had been a movie about Danny Trejo fighting a giant snake, we probably would have liked it a lot more. Instead, Anaconda pits the snakes against an ethnically diverse group of documentary filmmakers. On the Amazon, and looking to make a film about the Blair Witch, our film makers include Jennifer Lopez as director Terri Flores, Ice Cube as cameraman Danny Rich, and Jonathan Hyde as narrator Warren Westridge. There are a couple of other people along too, mainly so there will plenty of victims around for the snakes to eat. When a game of Snakes and Ladders
goes really, really wrong.

Written by Hans Bauer, Jim Cash and Jack Epps Jr.
Running time: 90 minutes.
Rated PG-13 (for intense adventure violence, and for brief language and sensuality). Opening line in film: "Alone among snakes, anacondas are unique. After eating their prey, they regurgitate in order to eat again.'' This film is loaded with biblical images of the Garden of Eden and the book of Revelation. The movie opens with a documentary film crew going into the Paradise of the Amazon Rain Forests in search of the People of the Mist. But there is trouble in Paradise in the form of a snake. The trouble begins when the crew picks up a stranded, evil ex-Catholic Priest, Paul Sarone, who comes across as an "angel of light." He also has a curious love for snakes. The hero of the film, Dr. Kelly, has a death type experience from a poisonous wasp. He is placed in his bedroom (tomb) and later, of course, has a resurrection and helps liberate the crew from the evil Priest and snake.

``Alone among snakes, anacondas are unique. After eating their prey, they regurgitate in order to eat again.'' By Roger Ebert This information is included in the opening titles of ``Anaconda,'' and as the words rolled across the screen I heard a chuckle in the theater. It came from me. I sensed with a deep certainty that before the movie was over, I would see an anaconda regurgitate its prey. Human prey, preferably. ``Anaconda'' did not disappoint me. It's a slick, scary, funny Creature Feature, beautifully photographed and splendidly acted in high adventure style. Its snakes are thoroughly satisfying. The most dreaded predator of the Amazon, we learn, the anaconda can grow to 40 feet in length, and crushes its prey before engorging it whole (so whole that it eats an entire jaguar, leaving behind only a single poignant eyeball). These insights into anaconda lore come mostly from a character named Sarone, played by Jon Voight as a slimy river rat with a dangerous gleam in his eye. ``This river can kill you in a thousand ways,'' he intones, and we get the feeling that he can, too. The propeller of his boat is broken, and he's rescued by a small expedition that hopes to make a documentary about the People of the Mista legendary lost Amazon tribe. ``I know them,'' Sarone says. ``They saved my life.'' And are probably still regretting it.

Anaconda
(Eunectes murinus) The anaconda's kingdom is animalia. Its phylum is chordata. Its class is reptila. Its order is squamata. Its family is boidae. Water boa is another name for the anaconda. The yellow anaconda is a yellow snake with a complex pattern. The scales on its body are smooth. Yellow anacondas are as thick as a telephone pole and often grow to be 16 feet long. They are the biggest snakes in the world. They are even bigger than the Old World python. There have been reports of 130 and 140 feet anacondas, but they have not been proven. The longest recorded anaconda was 33 feet long. It is one of the heaviest of snakes. A 20 foot anaconda weighs more than a 33 foot python. Like the crocodiles, the anaconda's nostrils are on top of its head. A 30 foot adult has a striking range of 15-25 feet. Anacondas live in South America, east of the Andes, mainly in the Amazon and Orinoco River basins, and in the Guianas. Their habitat is marshes, brushes, and swamps. They are never found far away from water. The swamps are their favorite spots. When kept out of the water, an anaconda's body becomes infested with ticks. The anaconda gives birth to live young. The gestation period is 6 months. A female can have up to 20-40 babies and sometimes as many as 100. The young are usually 2 feet long. A couple hours after they are born, the young can swim, hunt and care for themselves. After mating, the anaconda grows longer but slower.

Anaconda 's most hair-raising special effect: how they did it, step by step by Ken Neville A man runs for his life, chased by a 40-foot-long killer snake through the dense Amazon rain forest. He scampers up a cliff and takes refuge in a cave behind a raging waterfall. When the hunter pops its head through the wall of water, the hunted panics and leaps toward the river below. As the man tumbles, the snake swoops with lightning speed, snatching him in midair with its powerful jaws. Just as quickly, it twists around him, crushing him to death. http://www.spe.sony.com/movies/anaconda/sproduction.html
Anaconda is the first project CL Cinema Line Films Corporation brings to the screen, via the company's first-look deal with Columbia Pictures. CL Cinema Line's president of production and Anaconda executive producer Susan Ruskin discovered the script and brought it to the attention of producers Verna Harrah, Carole Little and Leonard Rabinowitz. "When I read it, I responded to it immediately," Ruskin recalls. "What struck me about Anaconda first was the potential to scare people and have an exciting action-adventure film at the same time." Harrah shared Ruskin's enthusiasm for the project. "I think everyone likes the thrill of being afraid as long as they know they're safe," she notes. "That kind of thrill was in this script. I enjoy thrillers and action-adventure movies. Aliens was one of my favorite films. So, it wasn't too difficult for us to make the decision to go with this project." Part of the script's appeal to the filmmakers was that the giant Anaconda that becomes the film's main instrument of terror is not entirely a creature of fantasy. "We didn't set out to make a science fiction film," muses Ruskin. "Snakes like our Anaconda do exist in mythic proportions. There is nothing fantastical about this story. And, on another level, these giant snakes tap into some essential fears that people have always had about snakes throughout religion and history." "It was interesting to find out about the Anaconda, which I knew very little about before," adds Harrah. "I assumed it was like a boa constrictor. You've seen children walking around with boas on them. Well, you can't do that with an Anaconda. It is the most dangerous snake in the world. It is a predator; it sees you as prey; and it will attack. You have to be very, very careful around them. I think that intrigued me, just how scary these snakes really are."

A documentary filmmaking crew hops on a boat and travels to the heart of the Amazon jungle to film some lost Tribe. Alas. Instead they wind up having to wrestle the world's two most deadliest snakes: 1) Giant anacondas and 2) Jon “overacting” Voight. Let the swallowing begin!
THE LOWDOWN:
" Anaconda" tries to do for snakes what " Jaws " did for sharks, but it eventually crumbles under its own silliness and winds up being pure dumb fun as opposed to a competent/mature horror thriller. This is a schlock B-movie with lots of coin to spare; nothing more, nothing less. Now even though the flick’s first hour is mostly all build-up, I still found myself grooving to what was going down. The pace of the film flowed effortlessly, the scenery was beautiful (although a tad “fake looking” at times), the occasional snake attack helped keep me in the game and Jon Voight’s (Paul) incredibly hammy delight of a show had me drumming on pots and pans. The movie eventually goes full slither for its final block, offering all kinds of zany "snake vs human" shenanigans to delight. The waterfall jump that transcended into a snake snack, for example, was so over the top that it had me standing up in cheers. It’s one of my favorite moments in the whole picture (note to self: get a life).

Did you ever hear the story of Francisco Barreto?Apparently he was trying to untangle his fishing netin NW. Brazil when he was attacked by a huge anaconda about 2 feet wide! The following day he was found washed up on shore the flesh of his skin torn away and his chest crushed. Since the incident the "Monster" has been spotted on several occasions.Anacondas have been known to eat large caimen and huge boars! Weighing 200 pounds or more!Sadly this snake is beginning to dwindle in numbers in the wild. There may be a time when these snakes do not exist! That would be a shame for they are truly a spectacle and a jem of an animal.Since its dark we should get some sleep and explore in the morning. So here we go.Anacondas like to bask on land after a meal. And thats probably where we will find one today. There is so much mud around here!Lk theres one!

Neotropical : The Green Anaconda is found throughout tropical South America, east of the Andes, mainly in the Amazon and Orinoco basins and in the Guianas (Pope 1969).
    Physical Characteristics
Eunectes murinus is dark green in color (hence the name Green Anaconda) with alternating oval black spots. Similar spots with yellow-ochre centers are along the sides of its body. The Green Anaconda has a large narrow head that is not distinct from the thick neck area. Its eyes and nostrils are set on the top of its head, which enables it to see and breathe while mostly submerged. Its body is exceptionally stocky compared to other boas and extremely muscular. This species is a constrictor and not poisonous. Adults of this species can grow to over 9 meters in length. For it's length, it is much heavier than other large constrictors, and so if weight and length are both considered, Green Anacondas are the largest snakes in the world. The snake is covered with scales all over and has spurs (small claw like appendages on either side of the cloaca. The only area without scales is the cloaca (cavity into which the intestinal and genito-urinary tracts empty). This area contains glands that emit a foul smelling toffee colored musk, which is poisonous for small organisms. It may be a way of preventing ticks and leeches from attaching themselves to the cloaca. The pattern of scales found along the black and yellow underside of the lower tail are unique to each snake and can serve as a method of identification, much like the fingerprint of a human (Coborn 1991; Encyclopedia Britannica 1995; Kemper 1996).
