The animal science curriculum provides training and career development for students having and interest in animal production and management or related fields (sales, research, health care). The biological sciences form a basis for the study and management of domesticated animals. Options are offered in animal industries, with specializations in animal agribusiness, livestock production and management, or equine science; laboratory animal science; and preveterinary medicine/research
Animal Industries. Instruction and practical experience in animal science (selection, breeding/reproduction, nutrition, physiology, behavior) and appropriate courses in business provide students the basic knowledge and skills to manage commercial or research enterprises in the livestock (dairy/beef, poultry, sheep, swine) and horse industries or related fields (breed associations, feed/health care products). Students may specialize in animal agribusiness, livestock production and management, or equine science.

It can speak for laboratory animal scientists and technologists in at least twenty European countries - Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and United Kingdom. It is managed solely by representatives of its constituent associations in those countries. felasa is well known for its triennial international scientific meetings - the 9th FELASA meeting will be held in June 2004 in Nantes, France - but it exists also to represent the common interests of its constituent associations. It co-ordinates the development of education and training for those engaged in the provision or use of laboratory animals, animal health monitoring and other topics by meetings, study groups and publications , and by acting as a focus for the exchange of opinions, ideas and information. It has established links with national, international and governmental bodies concerned with laboratory animal science in Europe, notably the Council of Europe and the Commission of the European Union, and it seeks collaboration with laboratory animal science associations outside Europe.

General Information All short courses and clinics are offered by or supported as an educational service of the Extension Horse Husbandry Section, North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service, in cooperation with the Horse Teaching Program and the Animal Science Department at North Carolina State University. All short courses and clinics are sponsored by the North Carolina Horse Council. Additional event sponsors and contacts are listed for specific short courses and clinics where appropriate. The North Carolina State University Equine Short Courses and Clinics were originally established in 1987 with the first annual Open Horse Show Judges' Clinic. The Short Course and Clinic Series, which has gained national and international recognition, will provide a variety of educational information through 15 events. Each educational event is uniquely designed to provide the most recent information and technology for a specific audience. Short course participants are encouraged to carefully review the enrollment, course content and eligibility information specifically provided for each short course and clinic. For specific information concerning an equine short course or clinic, please consult the designated course coordinator. Continuing Education Credit Individuals satisfactorily completing select courses will be awarded 0.7 CEUs (continuing education units) for each day of instruction. To receive CEUs a minimum of 90% of entire course attendance is required. The CEU is a nationally recognized uniform unit of measurement designed to permanently record an individual's non-credit continuing education accomplishments in increments of one CEU per 10 contact hours of instruction.
