Plant a Tree - Happy Arbor Day!
National Arbor Day is the last Friday in April, but many states observe Arbor Day on different dates according to their best tree-planting times. Check the list below to find out when your state or territory observes Arbor Day. Also listed is each state's official state tree. "Arbor Day which has already transplanted itself to every state in the American Union and has even been adopted in foreign lands... not like other holidays. Each of those reposes on the past, while Arbor Day proposes for the future."
J. Sterling Morton Arbor means "tree" in Latin. Arbor Day is a special day that has been set aside for planting and caring for trees. The first Arbor Day was celebrated in Nebraska on April 10, 1872. It was started by J. Sterling Morton, a Nebraska newspaper publisher who encouraged Nebraskans to plant trees to beautify and enrich the treeless state. He offered prizes for the most trees planted; over a million trees were planted on that first Arbor Day. Isaiah 65:22 "They shall not build, and another inhabit; they shall not plant, and another eat: for as the days of a tree [are] the days of my people, and mine elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands."

About Mardi Gras - http://www.nolalive.com/mardigras/about/
To be precise, Mardi Gras is just one day - Mardi Gras Day - and is always the day before Ash Wednesday. The exact date changes each year, based on the date of Easter. When folks say they are coming to New Orleans for Mardi Gras though, they don't usually mean they are coming for one day but for many days to see the parades and party.
April Fools Day - http://tlc.ai.org/aprilone.htm
The origin of April Fools' Day is not known exactly. There have been many guesses and explanations for its origin. Some believe the celebration of April Fool's Day began many years ago in France. People believe that this day perhaps relates back to an ancient New Year's festival held on the vernal Equinox, March 21. This site has links to April Fools' Day resources.

A new look at junk, or change the world, one bit a a time...
Things to discuss when it comes to saving resources...
Recycling is when an object can be shredded, melted or otherwise processed and then turned into new raw material for instance, aluminum cans can be melted down to make more cans, glass can make more glass, cardboard and paper make more coardboard and paper, plastic bags and containers can be turned into other plastic products. This takes some energy (very little for aluminum), but it is a good choice. Reusing is when you find a use for an existing item - like decorating a bag and using it as a gift bag instead of buying wrapping paper; putting leftovers into a clean container from some other food; turning a used box into storage; decorating a can to hold pencils; saving packing peanuts and boxes and using them the next time you need to ship something or give a gift. Giving things in good condition that you no longer need to charity is another good way to reuse things like outgrown clothing or toys. Reusing is often the best way to save resources. This is something to consider year-round, not just around the winter holidays.

ARBOR DAY THEME Celebrate National Arbor Day on Friday, April 26, 2002 What is Arbor Day?
Arbor Day is the time for planting new trees in yards, parks, neighborhoods, and communities. National Arbor Day is celebrated on the last friday in April, but the date of each state's Arbor day can vary depending on the growing season. Arbor day is also a time to appreciate trees both for their beauty and their usefulness. Talk with the children about how trees provide us with shade, food, and firewood as well as wood for making such things as paper, houses and furniture. Book List Coming Soon! Tree Hugging Take kids on a walk or to a park to look for trees. They can even give the trees big hugs. Have them compare trees by sizes, colors, types of bark, types of foliage. Here's a poem to go with "tree hugging" Why not hug a tree today
Or pat it on it's bark?
Give a tree a great big squeeze
At home or in the park. Find the tree you like the best
    And stand beneath it's shade.
Stretch your arms around its trunk
    And hug until you fade.
