Local people also believed that King Arthur and his knights slept in a hidden cave beneath the hillfort. When archaeological research first began there, an old man from the village asked anxiously if the excavators had come to remove the King.
And whatever the people of the neighbourhood were saying in 1542, they have certainly cherished Arthurian lore since then. Cadbury Hill has its version of the cave-legend, which, in fact, can be documented earlier than any other, as far back as the 16th century:
"Arthur lies asleep in a cavern closed by iron gates, or maybe golden ones. Sometimes they open so that the fortunate wanderer can glimpse him inside."
A party of Victorian archaeologists were asked by an old man if they meant to dig up the king.
"There is a well on the left of the path as you go up: it is Arthur's Well, and the highest part of the hill is Arthur's Palace", a phrase on record as early as 1586. Another story tells u that on Midsummer Eve, or Midsummer Night, or Christmas Eve (opinions differ, and some say it is only every 7th year), Arthur and his knights ride over the hilltop and down through the ancient gateway, and their horses drink at a spring beside Sutton Montis church; whether or not they can be seen, their hoof beats can be heard." Below the hill are traces of an old track running towards Glastonbury, called Arthur's Lane or Hunting Causeway, where a noise of spectral riders and hounds goes past on winter nights.

Internship in Applied Archeology
Teaching Resources Archeology Month Education News Internships Education Links Archeology Links The Arkansas Archeological Survey, in cooperation with the Department of Anthropology, University of Arkansas, offers an Internship program in Applied Archeology. The program emphasizes practical skills that will prepare graduate students for careers in a non-academic environment, including employment in consulting and other private sector firms, as well as federal, state, and local agencies. During the Internship, students will gain hands-on experience in public education and cultural resource management; project administration; archeological collections and site data management; and computer applications in archeology. General Description Since the late 1960s, there has been a significant shift in employment opportunities for archeologists from academic-based positions to government and private sector consulting firms, with an emphasis on cultural resource management. This trend is reflected in the membership profiles of the Society for American Archaeology , which indicate that academic archeologists now comprise a minority of the membership. Recognizing these changes, the

    Bobst Library Inventory Report
A complete collection inventory is underway in Bobst Library. Following a study of missing books conducted in Spring 1994, funding was secured for a multi-year “search and replace” effort. Project staff are concentrating first on the most heavily-used parts of the collection that are also most prone to losses. Thanks to a combination of funds donated to the Library and additional financial commitments by the University, missing books are being replaced and catalog records deleted for items not found and which are irreplaceable. The project will take six years to complete and by the year 2002 the entire collection will have been reviewed.
The inventory is in addition to the ongoing QuickSearch procedure in place to search for books reported missing by users. You are strongly encouraged to complete a QuickSearch form that is available on floors 1- 10 of Bobst Library and drop it at Circulation on the first floor. Circulation staff will notify you within 24 hours concerning the item's availability. In many cases our searches are successful within the first 24 hours. For those that are not, your search request initiates the replacement process for that title.
