Mountain-Prairie Region Join Lacreek NWR on March 14th 2003 in Celebrating 100 Years of Conservation!! Public Use/Recreation Lacreek NWR supports a variety of recreational uses. Public hunting is allowed for white-tailed deer, mule deer, ring-necked pheasant and sharp-tailed grouse. Public fishing is allowed on selected pools with special restrictions to manage the fishery in support of waterfowl production. Bird watching is a favored activity throughout the year and species diversity is high. Many visitors come in the winter to see migrating waterfowl and trumpeter swans. During the spring, shorebirds and neo-tropical migrants are numerous as well as broods of ducks and geese. Recreation opportunities at the Little White River Recreation Area include swimming, boating, water skiing, picnicking, camping, fishing, and hunting. LACREEK NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE VISITOR CENTER: A small visitors center located in the refuge headquarters office is packed with unique and informative items of interest relative to the refuge. We have informative displays and a "touch and feel" table which is sure to be a hit with the kids. We offer country friendly visitor services and please ask for a hot cup of coffee or cold drink of water while visiting our facility. A short bird walk is available that starts and ends at the visitor center. We would like you to share with us your bird observations while at the refuge. Archery in the Schools

by Doug Engh How do you promote archery to newcomers? By joining forces with other like-minded organizations. And how do you teach 34 NAA Level 1 archery instructor participants all at once? By scheduling a Level 2 course along side it. Excitement is so high, that Roy feels over 120 schools will commit to it before the end of the year. The summer training took place in a middle school gymnasium in Frankfort, KY over three days. The concept was to bring in the Level 2 candidates for the first day, and having them actually participate in training the Level 1s the following two days in addition to their own continuing training. The seven Level 2 candidates (several of whom were KYFW personnel including Roy Grimes and his new state archery coordinator Jenny Richardson) spent the first day learning how to shoot using Mathews Genesis compound bows. The Kentucky school program adopted the Genesis bows to be used in all the participating schools, so a sufficient quantity of the bows were on hand for the instructor training. The Level 2 candidates practiced shooting form, learned how to coach and correct each other’s form, and learned range safety. They were also told that the Level 1 candidates would be coming the following day and that the Level 2 candidates would participate in training them as part of their own course training.

Working Together Archery is Recognized in Minnesota
Before the LCMR (Legislative Commission on Minnesota Resources), Pittman Robertson Act monies were allocated for the improvement of firearms ranges, with archery not even being considered for funding. But archery had its day in 2002. by Linda K. Burch To Other Columns By Linda... To say that archery had its day at the Minnesota State capitol would be a lie. Behind the half hour shooting range presentation before the Legislative Commission on Minnesota Resources (LCMR), were hundreds of hours of preparation by folks from both the public and private sectors. That day at the capital was not just one day or even several weeks, but was a decade in the making.
Linda Burch testifying before the LCMR at the Minnesota State Capital in St. Paul The LCMR was created in 1963, to make funding recommendations for special natural resource projects. These projects help maintain and enhance Minnesotas natural resources. Since 1963, LCMR has appropriated over $493 million for approximately 1175 projects. Funds go toward things like fish, wildlife and native plant habitat projects, environmental education, water issues, and recreation and natural systems. The shooting range proposal fell under the area of recreation. With Pittman Robertson (PR) monies largely being allocated to wildlife biology and habitats, the firearms and archery industries have seen a proportionately small return on the investment they pay into the PR program. Federal funding for Minnesota Firearm Safety Education ended in 1997, which sent the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources scurrying for substitute funding.

    http://marinefisheries.org/license.htm
Recreational Fishing License(s) Information The FWC issues Lifetime Licenses to Florida residents for hunting, freshwater fishing and saltwater fishing. Funds generated from the sale of these licenses will be invested, creating an endowment to support the long-term conservation of Florida's wildlife and fisheries resources. For avid sportsmen who want the convenience of securing licensing, once and for all, for all your hunting, freshwater fishing and saltwater fishing activities, the Lifetime Sportsman's License is for you. Lifetime Licenses will remain valid for use in Florida even if you move out of state. For hunters and anglers who like a bargain, the cost of a Lifetime License is less than what would be spent on annual licenses, permits, and fees. The earlier the purchase is made, the bigger the savings. The Lifetime License is for parents, grandparents, and family friends who want to pass on the joys of outdoor recreation to young people and help ensure that today's youth have the natural resources to share hunting, freshwater fishing, and saltwater fishing with their children. The Lifetime License is for conservationists who want to contribute to the long-term management of Florida's natural resources. Only interest from the trust fund will be appropriated. The principal will be held in perpetuity to ensure future funding for fish and wildlife programs. This endowment will ensure that Florida's natural resources are conserved today for the future and that your children can pass on your family's hunting and fishing tradition to their children.
