67. A Century Of Finnish Architecture
Illustrated article for Virtual Finland by MarjaRiitta Norri, Director of the Museum of Finnish architecture.
http://virtual.finland.fi/finfo/english/arkkitehtuuri.html
Written for Virtual Finland by Marja-Riitta Norri,
Director, Architect; Museum of Finnish Architecture Arkkitehtityöhuone Artto Palo Rossi Tikka Oy/Hannu Tikka, KimmoLintula: Sibelius Hall, Congress and Concert Centre, Lahti, 2000 T he World Architecture Award for 2001 was awarded at midsummer to the Finnish Embassy in Berlin. For the designers of the building, Rauno Lehtinen, Pekka Mäki and Toni Peltola, it was their first built work and only one of them had managed to complete his architecture degree by the time the building was finished. The commission had been given to them through a competition, the traditional way for young architects to get started in Finland. Such competitions have given architecture greater vigour and often elicited an international response, as well.
Lehtinen-Mäki-Peltola:
Finnish Embassy, Berlin, 1999.
T he competition system is an extremely effective institution that is an integral part of the practice of architecture in Finland. However, the special characteristics of Finnish architecture are not solely practical, but associated fundamentally with form, content and, specifically background factors. Does Finnish architecture have a distinct identity of its own? The question is often approached in the negative sense, by ruling out the things that are alien to the concept. The alternative approach is to identify the overall frame of reference for the 'Finnishness' of the architecture. "In architecture the key factor is the pursuit of order: Finnish architecture is about the organization of Finland," wrote Pekka Suhonen in the 1960s. "Finnish architecture is what is done by Finnish architects," pointed out Kristian Gullichsen in the 1980s.

Download the source as a zip file My 4-part Article on Java IDL and CORBA Java IDL- Part 1 Java IDL- Part 2 Java IDL- Part 3 Java IDL- Part 4 CORBA defines a model that specifies interoperability between distributed objects on a network in a way that is transparent to the programmer. It achieves this by defining ways for specifying the externally visible characterestics of a distributed object in a way that is implementation-independant. This model is based on clients requesting the services from distributed objects or servers through a well-defined interface, by issuing requests to the objects in the form of events. An event carries information about an operation that needs to be performed including the object name (called an object reference ) of the service provider and the actual parameters if any.

Located at Syracuse's Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Presents the group's activities, research reports, and downloadable software for Computer architecture Simulation.
http://66.123.214.97/research/index.htm
Thank you for visiting the High Performance Computer Architecture and Microarchitecture Research Lab at Syracuse University. This is the first year of this lab. Professor Pease and Dr. Afzal Hossain started building this lab in November 2000. Since then we have made significant progress. Our year 2001 progresses are as following -
  • We have found a location for the lab at the first floor of Link Hall. The lab currently has two Dell Power Edge 1500 Servers, and one Dell 4300 Pentium 4 system. These machines run Linux 7.0 OS, and are equipped with microarchitecture simulators. We are using these machines as our main simulation servers. We have published three papers from our lab at different conferences last year. Our early efforts on developing microarchitectures simulators are beginning to pay off. We hope to have a good number of papers published this year. We are very glad to have James S. Burns as our research director. James S. Burns has a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from University of Southern California. He is currently an IA64 architect at Intel Corporation. James is well known in the industry as a leader for his works on Simultaneous Multithreading. James is the author of the POSM simulator.

Vastushastra - Science and Architecture ...
Namaste ! Welcome to Wisdom and Knowledge from Ancient India
Darshanshastra has five sub-branches - Vastushastra, Yogashastra, Astrology, Ayurveda, and Sangeet. The combined wisdom covers ideas of cosmic energy flow, space-time, five great elements etc. "Perception" as defined by Western philosophers is part and parcel of the all-pervasive "Darshanshastra" The following pages will discuss Vastushastra in terms of other branches of Darshanshastra - Yogashastra, Ayurveda (Medicine), Jyotisha (Astrology), and Sangeet (Music). Just follow VASTUSHASTRA and achieve your personal goals. Live in harmony with nature. Save the environment and preserve the ecology. Email Contact vastuindex
Vastushastra is a matter of faith. Vastu guidelines must be applied with due dilligence. In all cases, rules framed by local authorities and building societies must not be infringed. Vastushastra is not a magical formula for instant success. Application of Vastu principles result in physical and mental well-being over a period of time. Prosperity is but an outcome of the change in mental outlook and thinking processes brought about by the "feel-good" factor. Consultation with Vastu experts helps in defining problems and finding remedial measures. January 2002 .
