Museo Frida Kahlo (Frida Kahlo House and Museum): Palacio Nacional: Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City: The country's premier venue for the performing arts, this fabulous building is the combined work of several masters, including the Italian architect Adamo Boari. The theater's exterior is turn-of-the-century Art Nouveau, covered in marble, while the interior is 1930s Art Deco. The Templo Mayor's Aztec Splendor: The Templo Mayor and Museo del Templo Mayor, in Mexico City, are an archaeological excavation and a museum with 6,000 objects on display. They showcase the variety and splendor of the Aztec Empire as it existed in the center of what is now Mexico City. Catedral Metropolitana: This towering cathedral, begun in 1573 and finished in 1788, blends baroque, neoclassic, and Mexican churrigueresque architecture, and was constructed primarily from the stones of destroyed Aztec temples.

Urban or rural, bourgeois or avant-garde Architecture, design and decorative arts are all the work of creators who have made their marks throughout Quebec.
The only museum devoted to architecture, the Canadian Centre for Architecture offers programming of international calibre and has earned a reputation as a centre for research and education. Its exhibitions and activities explain the different facets of this art and give visitors new perspectives on the city. "Here at the Canadian Centre for Architecture, we respected the surrounding greystone buildings. Our approach has an educational dimension. I wanted people to understand that greystone was an important architectural element in Montreal."
Phyllis Lambert, founder of the Canadian Centre for Architecture, in Montreal. Architects, designers and creators have crafted their own works and imposed their own styles. Just look around as you roam through Quebec, and you'll see the Quebec spirit, with its French, English and other roots, in design, architecture and urban planning everywhere. It is in the groups of buildings in lower and upper towns, in the many details and decorative elements. The museums themselves are part of it; their architecture speaks of history, past and present.

Cultural Studies on the Internet Welcome to the new Polity Cultural Studies Resources. The links on this page were collected and reviewed by Sarah Berry, Information Architect, and Toby Miller, from the Department of Cinema Studies at New York University.
What is Cultural Studies? Cultural studies (CS) is concerned with subjectivity and powerhow human subjects are formed and experience their lives in cultural and social space. CS blends methods and issues from economics, politics, media and communication studies, sociology, literature, education, the law, science and technology studies, anthropology, and history, with a particular focus on gender, race, class, and sexuality in everyday life. It represents, in broad terms, the commingling of textual and social theory, under the sign of a commitment to progressive social change. Rather than limiting its focus to canonical works of art, governmental history, or quantitative social data, CS devotes time to subcultures, popular media, music, clothing, and sport. By looking at how culture is used and transformed by "ordinary" and "marginal" social groups, CS sees them not simply as consumers, but also potential producers of new social values and cultural languages. This focus on relations of consumption and the socialization of commodities foregrounds the centrality of the communications media in everyday life.

Visiting Romania gives you the chance to see Constantin Brancusi's works in the marvelous setting of a park in Targu Jiu, near Hobita, his home village. "The Endless Column" (Coloana Infinita) , "The Gate of the Kiss" (Poarta Sarutului) , "The Table of Silence" (Masa Tacerii) and "The Alley of Chairs" (Aleea Scaunelor) are displayed among trees and lawns as Brancusi wanted them to be.
Romania has a great diversity of museums preserving every facet of its history and arts. Some are small museums, catering to enthusiasts with a taste for special interests such as pharmacy, clocks, railway trains, folk arts and architecture, wine making and traditional crafts. Larger museums host regular exhibitions from around the world, as well as housing permanent collections of paintings and sculptures. Prominent museums include Romania's National Museum of Art, the Art Collections Museum, the Village Museum, the Museum of the Romanian Peasant in Bucharest, and the Bruckenthal Museum in Sibiu. For a listing of Websites offering more information on Romania's Museums, please check the Links
Romanians' vivid imagination and intense spirituality have always been expressed through their architecture. Fortunately, they also have strong preservation instincts, resulting in village museums that display bygone ways of life through found and restored peasant houses, elaborately carved gates, barns and other architectural elements. The best and most comprehensive of these is the Village Museum
