Risk and Resiliency Research
Risk and Protective Factor Summary General Risk and Protective Factor Information
  • Boys typically externalize behaviors, which bothers people (thus getting attention), while girls internalize behaviors and are often ignored. One familial risk factor has shown no impact on a child's likelihood of developing problems, but four increased the risk of unhealthy behaviors ten-fold. (Rutter et.al) The number of risk factors appears more important than exactly what these factors are. Though certain risk factors appear particularly salient, no single or combination of risk factors has been found to account for more than 30% of any problem behavior. Resilient children enjoy multiple protective factors that outnumber their risk factors.
