AEA strengthens links with parents
The Arizona Education Association believes parents and teachers are natural partners in the success of Arizona's students. AEA and its members are engaged in many efforts to enhance that natural partnership to strengthen teaching and learning. One of these is the AEA Parents as Partners Information Series.
Parents as Partners includes more than brochures aimed at helping parents help their children learn. Many of the brochures are available in Spanish. AEA makes these materials available to parents, teachers, and school leaders free of charge (for small quantities) or at a modest cost. In some cases, AEA will provide camera-ready originals to be used to duplicate large quantities of the brochures.
New brochures -Helping teens, three ways to improve grades, and study skills
For back-to-school, AEA has added four new brochures for parents.
  • "Just Three Things and 15 Minutes for Better Grades" explains the most significant things parents can do to improve their child's school performance: ask about school, check homework every day, and stay in contact with teachers.

Student Services The paradigm shift, since I took office is that the Department of Education will be primarily a service organization, helping school districts and charter schools achieve more academic success. The Department is also an organization that assures compliance, and we will have to be conscientious about that, but the compliance function will be secondary. The primary function is now: service. If you would like to read about our 8 primary goals, please click here to read my inaugural speech. It is my hope that the Department of Education will be a place of intellectual passion and ferment, processing many ideas, and effectively implementing the best of them. Tom Horne
