With the assistance of the Governor's office, the grant was awarded to the Arizona K-12 Center at Northern Arizona University. The grant is part of the foundation's State Challenge Grants for Leadership Development program. The State Challenge Grants are part of a $350 million, three-year commitment to helping all students achieve in the classroom.
The money will be used to create and provide professional development through participation in two Leadership Institutes for Technology (LIT) for those in superintendent and principal positions in all Arizona public and private schools.
A critical part of each institute is the opportunity for all public and private superintendents and principals to focus on student achievement as well as have hands-on technology skill development applications of leadership concepts. The ultimate goal of the leadership institutes is to increase student achievement through a variety of methods, including providing access to quality professional development opportunities, creating a high-performance technological learning environment and improving the use of technology as a management tool.

One graduate fellow and two additional undergraduate students have been working with the Intel-funded after-school science clubs. They are helping the students develop research-based projects that can be entered into the Central Arizona Regional Science and Engineering Fair (CARSEF) this spring.
National Science Foundation Meeting:
The project PI, (B. Ramakrishna), evaluator (Debra Banks), one fellow (Elena Ortiz-Barney) and one teacher (Anne English) participated in a GK-12 meeting at NSF in October. This was a valuable meeting and we learned that our experiences mirror those of other GK-12 programs.
