I have three native languages: Armenian, Ukrainian, and Russian.
The influence of English onto Armenian has becoming stronger and stronger.
I will also do my best to save Armenian for myself and my children.
Susanna Tsaturian from Ukraine Kirovohrad State Pedagogical University

I was born in a small Ukrainian town 18 years ago. My parents arrived from Georgia (now one of New Independent States), but they are not Georgians. My father is Armenian, my mother has Greek origin, but she was born and grew up in Georgia. It happened so that we arrived in Ukraine and we have lived here since then. So, I have three native languages: Armenian, Ukrainian, and Russian. At home my native language is Armenian, at the university - Ukrainian. I communicate with my friends in Russian. It is very difficult to save your mother tongue when you live in a foreign environment, that's why we do everything possible and impossible for saving Armenian.

BIBLIOGRAPHIC RECORD The Columbia Encyclopedia, Sixth Edition. Armenian language member of the Thraco-Phrygian subfamily of the Indo-European family of languages (see Indo-European ). There is evidence that in ancient times a distinct subfamily of Indo-European languages existed that is now called Thraco-Phrygian. To it belonged Phrygian (an ancient and now extinct Indo-European language of Anatolia) and Thracian (a now dead Indo-European tongue of the Balkans in antiquity). Modern Armenian may well be a direct descendant of Phrygian. Today Armenian is the mother tongue of more than 5 million people, of whom over 3 million live in Armenia; 1 million live elsewhere in the republics of the former Soviet Union; and the rest are in the Middle East, the Balkans, and the United States. Armenian is an old, rich, and vital language. Although spoken in antiquity, it was not recorded in writing until the early 5th cent.

The Pimsleur method of language learning is a unique system that specifically focuses on developing the student's ability to understand and create spoken language. There is no book or written material to follow; all the coursework is presented in a series of carefully crafted, real-time audio lessons on cassette or compact disc. The course is led by an English-speaking tutor and supported by a male and female native speaker whose pronunciation is flawless. Each comprehensive level of the Pimsleur course consists of thirty half-hour lessons. The first lesson assumes that the student is completely new to the language and teaches a very small amount of everday language. Rather than just having the student repeat the material, the Pimsleur course asks the student to recall what he/she has just learned, and to try to actually create his/her own sentences as the lessons goes on. As more words and grammatical structures are introduced, the student is challenged to incorporate the new material into the old. Within a few lessons, what once seemed like a very small amount of material has suddenly grown into a powerful functionality, and just keeps growing.

Swear words and phrases are dysphemisms. A dysphemism - the exact opposite of a euphemism - is a means of expressing something considered offensive, harsh, crude, taboo or embarrassing in a particular culture in terms that maximize its offensive impact. It is language used as a weapon, not neutralized, pacified and waved as a white flag. For example, many Asian cultures consider any reference to the female anatomy to be taboo, so saying the word "tits" is considered to be highly offensive!
Thanks to everyone who has contributed to it, this is the largest resource of foreign languages swear words and phrases and their English translations ever compiled.
