    70. Teachers' Guide To American Art
Information is provided about selected works of art that are on display at the de TheAmerican history lesson plans 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 may be used as classroom
    http://www.thinker.org/fam/education/publications/guide-american/
This teachers' guide includes a variety of materials designed to help you prepare your class for a visit to the collection of American art at the de Young Museum in Golden Gate Park. Thanks to funding from the National Endowment for the Arts and The San Francisco Foundation, we are pleased to offer you information about twenty-four objects that represent American art from colonial times to the Civil War period. The descriptive information about the artworks is accompanied by lesson plans which serve to enhance the 5th-grade American history curriculum. This selection of objects was assembled to reflect the high quality of the works of art in the de Young collection. The degree of interest to 5th-grade students was also strongly considered in choosing pieces for this teachers' guide. Clearly, the works of art do not represent the full range of artists who were women, indigenous people, or people of non-European backgrounds who lived in America from the 1670s to the 1880s. The de Young Museum is committed to broadening its collection, and as the American art collection expands to represent a more diverse group of artists, we will make additions to this publication. The activities and research projects suggested in this guide give a more inclusive and complete picture of America during this time. We hope that you enjoy the adventure and challenge of making America's history and culture come alive for your students.

Ideas for Teachers was designed by Lehman College Art Gallery education staff for major public art sites. These sites were chosen for their educational potential and appropriateness for children in grades K-8. Ideas for Teachers is focused for classroom teachers to visit the art with their classes, develop questions and discuss what they see with students, and help students create artwork back in the classroom. Sample art activities, that come naturally from the core ideas expressed in the work, are described and use readily available materials. Suggestions for extending the learning and integrating it into content areas, writing and math skills and critical thinking are natural outcomes, making it easy for teachers to try new ideas that are based on tried and true methods. Care was taken to fulfill the National Standards for Visual Arts Education and the New York State Learning Standards for the Arts and are noted with each set of ideas. Grades Art Activity

    Art History Quiz
Art History lesson covers art from the Ancient Cultures. After following links to different sites students can take a quiz on Art History. This lesson is also part of the Mixer Game.
Message from Central Mixer 898 has made shambles of ancient art work. He has transformed our historical gallery into a maze. When we open the Egyptian art, we see art work which cannot be Egyptian, but we are not sure what culture developed it. We have heard rumors of sites which have not been contaminated. Click on the Art and Architecture links and view the uncorrupted material. Then go to Mixer's lair and correct what he has mixed up. When you correct these mistakes, Mixer may reveal some more clues to the timeline murder mystery. Your assignment, if you choose to take it, will be to study the art and buildings from the different cultures. The cultures covered will be: Mesopotamia, Egypt, China, India, Greece, and Rome. Be very familiar with each famous work and general characteristics of the culture. From what we can determine, Mixer will test you by showing you a picture and then giving you a list of cultures you believe it came from. Mixer will also ask you questions about characteristics of art from the different cultures. Study this well. You only get one shot at it. The first test is short (called Art History Sample Test), to give you an idea of what to expect. Click here to go to Art sites.
