They may have to deal with all types of student behavior. Most teachers work a traditional two-semester, 10-month school year. Some teach summer sessions or take other summer jobs. Many enroll in college courses or special workshops during the summer to meet continuing education requirements for renewing their teaching certificate. Teaching is not a nine to five job. Then it's off to the library, which should have lists of classics just right for children learning to read. Meanwhile, publishers are constantly presenting new books for new readers. This column offers a round-up of newly-published books for beginning readers.
