83. Exploring Art - Lesson Plans
Exploring art lessons can be purchased either with or without supplies. The supplykits come with everything your students will need to complete the lesson.
http://www.exploringart.com/lessonplans.html
Exploring Art lessons can be purchased either with or without supplies. For your convenience, we have priced the supplies per student. The supply kits come with everything your students will need to complete the lesson. If you do not see a "supplies per student" cost, we do not ship supplies for that particular project. Our Supply kits DO NOT include common supplies such as markers, paintbrushes, glue, scissors, etc.
Order online or click here to download an order form in PDF format. MATERIALS:
Exploring Art Lessons list the suggested materials needed for the completion of a project. However, we know that many educators do not have the necessary funding for special supplies. Please feel free to modify the supplies at your convenience. For example, many teachers prefer crayons over markers. Be creative and use whatever products you have access to.
ESTIMATED TIME LENGTH FOR LESSONS:
Exploring Art lessons are designed to be taught in 1-2 hour periods. However, use your discretion. There are so many variables when working with children. You may want to divide the lesson up. Maybe draw one day, and paint or color the next. This works well with younger students. If you see that your little ones are getting tired, stop and revisit the project another day. It’s always discouraging to see such a nice drawing that was then scribble colored because your student didn’t feel like finishing it! Another suggestion would be to have an "ART DAY" where you can have students work on projects until they are finished.

Introduction
These lessons generally follow the grade-by-grade topics in the Core Knowledge Sequence, but they have been developed independent of the Core Knowledge Foundation. While the Core Knowledge Foundation encourages the development and sharing of lessons based on the Core Knowledge Sequence, it does not endorse any one set of lesson plans as the best or only way that the knowledge in the Sequence should be taught. You may feel free to download and distribute these lessons, but please note that they are currently in DRAFT form. At this time the draft lessons on this web site do NOT have accompanying graphics, such as maps or cut-out patterns. In participating BCP schools, these lessons are used in conjunction with the Direct Instruction skills programs in reading, language, and math. If you use or adapt these lessons, keep in mind that they are meant to address content and the application of skills. You will need to use other materials to ensure that children master skills in reading, language, and math. Ideas for Teachers was designed by Lehman College Art Gallery education staff for major public art sites. These sites were chosen for their educational potential and appropriateness for children in grades K-8. Ideas for Teachers is focused for classroom teachers to visit the art with their classes, develop questions and discuss what they see with students, and help students create artwork back in the classroom. Sample art activities, that come naturally from the core ideas expressed in the work, are described and use readily available materials. Suggestions for extending the learning and integrating it into content areas, writing and math skills and critical thinking are natural outcomes, making it easy for teachers to try new ideas that are based on tried and true methods. Care was taken to fulfill the National Standards for Visual Arts Education and the New York State Learning Standards for the Arts and are noted with each set of ideas. Grades Art Activity
