The following brief introduction on how to propagate native plants has been condensed from the Container Tree Nursery Manual, Volume 6 (USDA Forest Service, Agriculture Handbook 674, May 1999). Introduction - Plant propagation is both a science and an art. The science of plant propagation requires a knowledge of plant physiology, nursery cultural practices, and characteristics of the particular plant that you want to grow. The art of plant propagation cannot be taught in a book or classroom, however, because it consists of specific technical skills that must be acquired through innate ability or experience and often requires a certain "feel." Good plant pagators are said to have a "green thumb." Planning - Successful nursery management begins with planning. Crop planning is one of the most important, yet often neglected, aspects of seedling culture. The first phase of the planning process is to determine which propagation method will be most effective and economical for the crop species. Both the biology of the species and the objectives of the outplanting project must be considered. If it is possible to propagate a plant either by seed or vegetatively, then the amount of genetic variability that is desired in the crop must be considered. Figure 1.

To Netnews Homepage Previous Next Index ... Table of Contents Esoteric Healing - Introductory Remarks I shall endeavor first of all to touch upon the causes of disease, for the occult student must ever begin in the world of origins and not in the world of effects. In the second place, I shall elaborate the seven methods of healing which govern the "work of restitution" (as it is called in the occult terminology) as practiced by the initiates of the world. These determine the techniques which must be employed. You will note that these methods and techniques are conditioned by the rays (of which I have written elsewhere: A Treatise on the Seven Rays, Vol. I and II.) and that therefore the healer has to take into [5] consideration not only his own ray but also the ray of the patient. There are therefore seven ray techniques, and these require elucidation before they can be applied intelligently. In the third place, I shall lay emphasis upon psychological healing and upon the need to deal with the patient in his inner life, for the basic law underlying all occult healing may be stated to be as follows: Law I
All disease is the result of inhibited soul life, and that is true of all forms in all kingdoms. The art of the healer consists in releasing the soul, so that its life can flow through the aggregate of organisms which constitute any particular form.

The Department of Art
Art Graphic Co. Courses The visual arts are a significant means for transmitting societal values, images, and identities. The Department of Art seeks to:
  • Advance visual literacy through the study of art history, art criticism, and aesthetics. Develop proficiencies in the studio arts. Promote the cultural, intellectual, spiritual, and aesthetic life of students. Prepare students for art-related careers or graduate study.
The art program builds on a broad liberal arts background of General Education. It explores relationships between the art disciplines, as well as builds connections with other academic fields. Studies in traditional, non-traditional, western, and non-western art forms encourage students to develop an understanding of the uniqueness of aesthetic perception, the artistic heritage, and art processes. Art and Graphic Communications Studio Arts Art Subject Matter Program , and Graphic Design within the Art major. A studio arts concentration under the art major provides a variety of art media from which students select specializations (painting, drawing, sculpture, contemporary crafts, printmaking, or photography). An art subject matter program works in collaboration with the Department of Teacher Education. Art education students take a broad base of art courses to prepare them to teach art in the elementary or secondary schools. A graphic design concentration focuses on techniques and concepts needed for mass communication.

John Bateman
GMD, IPSI, Darmstadt, Germany Although crucial to the entire enterprise of automatic text generation , deep generation remains a collection of activities lacking a clear theoretical foundation at this time. The most widely accepted views on what constitutes deep generation are already exhausted by a small number of techniques, resources and algorithms revealing as many problems as they can really claim to solve. For these reasons, recent research work in text generation centers on aspects of deep generation and it is here that serious breakthroughs are most needed. Whereas the goal of deep generation is to produce specifications of sufficiently fine granularity and degree of linguistic abstraction to drive surface generators, how it is to do so, and from what starting point, remains unclear.
4.3.1 State of the Art
Although deep generation is most often seen as notionally involving two subtasks-selecting the content for a text and imposing an appropriate linear order on that content's expression-it is now usually accepted that this decomposition is problematic. The subtasks are sufficiently interdependent as to make such a decomposition questionable. Linear order is achieved by the intermediate step of constructing a recursive text structure, typically the province of
