Study of celestial events and objects requires fine resolution of weak signals. ADIR image enhancement, image analysis, and pattern recognition algorithms can greatly assist in processing astrometric images.
ADIR employs a myriad of techniques to enhance digital images. ADIR-designed image filters can be used to remove noise and artifacts, to smooth or sharpen images, and to improve contrast and/or brightness.
ADIR algorithms can efficiently differentiate objects in star field images. ADIR also has detailed experience handling the problems inherent in measuring near-continuous objects in digital images. We can also develop custom algorithms to address your unique image processing requirements.

    Studying physics and astronomy
From its earliest beginnings the University of Heidelberg has offered courses in physics and astronomy. The development of physics in the 19th century owes much to famous names like Gustav Robert Kirchhoff and Hermann Helmholtz Great names of the past
In the present century, important scholars working at the Faculty were astronomer Max WOLF and Nobel Prize laureates Philip Lenard , Walter Bothe and Hans Jensen . The latter's appointment to the newly created chair of Theoretical Physics in 1949 marked the beginning of a broadening of the research ambit ultimately responsible for the wide range of interests displayed by the present Faculty. [Click for an enlarged view] Today, these interests encompass both basic research and applications-oriented approaches. Investigating the fundamental constituents of matter and the forces of nature and the way they interact is the domain of particle physics (high-energy physics, heavy ion physics, atomic and neutron physics). The diversity of the material world around us is a result of the collective phenomena produced by interactions of very large numbers of particles. These complex forms are the province of condensed matter physics. Astronomy and astrophysics explore the universe and address the questions of its evolution and constitution. The basic research done in these areas is supplemented by strongly application-oriented study interests such as environmental physics ("invented" in Heidelberg), medical physics and hardware informatics.
