I recently purchased a Nikon Coolpix 995 digital camera . Unlike my Ricoh RDC-4200 digital camera, the CP995 allows the use of 28mm filters. This meant that the Scopetronix Digi-T System could be used to "hard mount" the camera to an eyepiece. Unlike the Scopetronix Universal (bracket type) Digital Camera Adapter , the Digi-T makes the camera a part of the telescope and gets the camera lens as close as possible to the eyepiece to reduce vignetting.

Vixen Camera Adapter Vixen DG-LV http://www.vixen.co.jp/english/telesco/dgad.htm . Pricing is debatable. I paid $AUS170 in Australia, which, from previous experience would come out at about $US60 approximately. The adapter supports various thread diameters via a separate ring." Getting Started in Astrophotography
by Michael Oates
Camera Shutter Cable Release Tripod Film ... Notes The aim of this article to give some basic advice to those who would like to have a go at taking some photographs of the night sky, and who don't want, at this stage, to spend much money on equipment. So I will mention where possible any alternative methods or equipment that can be used. It is also aimed at those who have little or no knowledge in astronomy and/or photography, but I do assume you know how to load the camera with film etc.
Camera
To get started in astrophotography you don't need much in the way of equipment. A camera is required of course, and can be of any type, as long as it has manual control of the aperture (or at least some manual override) and a "B" shutter setting. This shutter setting enables the shutter to be kept open for as long as you press the shutter release. Although almost any camera can be used the best type is an SLR Single Lens Reflex that allows the changing of the lenses, so that a telephoto lens can be used to show a smaller area of the sky. It is best to avoid automatic cameras as the electronics, or at least the battery can fail in the low temperatures that the camera can be subjected to in the cold nights of winter. Having said this to get started, so long as there is a "B" setting any camera will do. If the camera allows interchangeable lenses you should use either the standard lens or wide angle. To use telephoto lenses requires some form of driven mount.

Taking pictures of the night sky is easier than you think. Just load some film, mount the camera on a tripod and open the shutter for a few seconds. You don't need an expensive telescope or other sophisticated equipment to be an astrophotographer. If you've taken pictures of a sunset or thin crescent moon then you've already been exposed to this great hobby. I hope the following information will provided you with some ideas of your own regarding astrophotography. Hello, welcome to my site. I developed this site for a several reasons. One was to share my interest with others that have the same interest. Second, to spark interest in astronomy for those who are curious about the subject. And finally, to share some of the limited knowledge I have on the subject to help others make their transition into astronomy less frustrating than my experience. If you are new to astronomy, you will find yourself asking many questions about the type of equipment needed. I have a section of my site dedicated to this question. One should research this information carefully before deciding what type of equipment to purchase. This is very important if you want to get started off on the right foot in such an exciting and rewarding hobby. Please feel free to browse and make any comments that may help me to improve this site. If you require any additional information, please do not hesitate to contact me. John Watzke

    Astrophotography
    Introduction

Do you look at the glossy pictures in the magazines and think that you'd like to do the same? Sure, some of those pictures required very expensive equipment, and years of experience. But, you too can take pictures that will highlight the splendour of our night skies, with very little expense and experience.
Do you want to capture star trails, moon craters, Jupiter, Saturn, Venus, the star clouds of the Milky Way, whole constellations, meteor trails and so on? The list is endless, and you can do that right now! All you need is a 35mm SLR camera, a tripod and access to a telescope. Let's take each of these in turn and then we'll cover films and techniques.
    The Camera
You don't need one of those new cameras that talks, tap dances, and takes the picture for you. An older SLR with no electronics at all is quite adequate. The beauty of an SLR is the low cost of 35mm film, interchangeability of lenses and the direct viewing of the subject on the focusing screen. Because almost all astronomical objects are low brightness, the camera must have the ability to take time exposures. As long as the shutter has a B setting, the lens focuses on infinity, and you can set the aperture diaphragm yourself, you're ready to shoot the sky. Any of the older SLR cameras will meet all these conditions.
