Hi All, On Sunday March 30th, Queen's Athletics recognized a number of graduating-student athletes by presenting them with a number of coveted sport awards. Below you will find a short biography on each of the athletes who won a major award. Also honoured at the awards ceremony this year was long time fan and supporter, Hal "Moose" McCarney from Gananoque. Hal was presented with the Michael J. Rodden Memorial Plaque in recognition of 55 years of dedicated service to Queen's Athletics as a football player, assistant football coach, founder of the QFC Booster Club, founder of the Queen's Football Hall of Fame, and as an ardent fan and strong supporter of football and student life at Queen's University. Two students also received kudos for their hard work and dedication to our athletic program and were awarded a Queen's Athletics Special Recognition Plaque. Dan Vertlieb was recognized for his contribution as a sport broadcaster for CRFC, and as the former sport editor for the student newspaper the Journal. Along with Dan, Nicolas Petraglia, AMS Campus Activities Commissioner, was recognized for his support of our overall athletic program, and by acting as a bridge between our student population and administration.

Athletics has been an integral part of the life of the Brandeis University community since the department was founded in 1951. The roster of coaches who have been part of the Judges' family reads like a Who's Who of Boston luminaries, from Bud Collins and the men's tennis team in the late 1950s and K.C. Jones leading the men's basketball squad in the 1960s to current hoops head coach Chris Ford. Over the years, Brandeis has won NCAA team championships in men's soccer and men's cross country and 24 individual titles, with numerous more NCAA appearances and All-Americans in their ranks. In the Sears Directors' Cup, a measure of the overall success of the athletic programs of colleges and universities across the nation, the Judges have finished among the top 100 in Division III in five of the seven years the standings have been compiled. Brandeis competes in the University Athletic Association (UAA), a unique Division III affiliation. The Judges' conference opponents include the University of Rochester, New York University, Emory University (Atlanta), Carnegie Mellon University (Pittsburgh), Case Western Reserve University (Cleveland), the University of Chicago and Washington University (St. Louis), giving Brandeis athletes a chance to see some of the most exciting cities in the country on a regular basis. In addition to including some of the most prestigious academic institutions in Division III, the UAA also includes some of the most successful athletic programs in the nation, giving Brandeis athletes a chance to prove themselves against the best Division III has to offer.
