  • Emerging State Law Claims Prompted by Patent Enforcement (February 2003)
    Paul C. Van Slyke
At first glance, it would appear that state law would have no place in a patent dispute. As experience has dictated, this is simply not the case. From establishing declaratory judgment jurisdiction in a tenuous forum to adding a litany of potent counterclaims, state law can be used (or used against you) during the course of patent litigation in a variety of ways.
  • SEC Adopts Standards of Professional Conduct for Attorneys (February 2003)
The Securities and Exchange Commission has adopted final rules as directed by Section 307 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 regulating the standards of professional conduct for attorneys appearing and practicing before the Commission. In some respects, the adopted rules reflect a significant departure from the rules as proposed.

Below are some links to legal resources. While internet research is great for some areas (for example, intellectual property), resources for other areas are spotty and disorganized. Given the number of lawyers in America we're surprised at the relatively small number who have established a presence on the Web. We've included links for other law firms in Minnesota and Texas. State Bar ethics opinions are authored by a committee directly accountable to the State Bar and ultimately accountable to the Wisconsin Supreme Court. Although the ethics opinions are advisory only and not binding on the Office of Lawyer Regulation . Eoghan Casey (Editor)
Following on the success of his introductory text, Digital Evidence and Computer Crime, Eoghan Casey brings together the specialized knowledge of a few top experts to create the first detailed guide for professionals who are already familiar with digital evidence. The Handbook of Computer Crime Investigation helps readers master the forensic analysis of computer systems with a three-part approach covering tools, technology, and case studies. The Tools section provides the details on leading hardware and software programs-such as EnCase, Dragon, and ForensiX-with each chapter written by that product's creator. The section ends with an objective comparison of the strengths and limitations of each tool. - Book Description High Technology Crime Investigator's Handbook
Gerald L. Kovacich, William C. Boni
This book is coming at a time when high technology crime is growing at a rapid pace, and private and public law enforcement are struggling to keep up. The book will inform readers about the potential of high tech crimes, in addition to the resources that are available to combat them. This book is unique in that it fully covers the management of a high tech investigation unit. Criminals today are often better equipped than the agencies responsible for stopping them. Federal, state, county, and local law enforcement agencies and civilian investigative organizations lag far behind in their procurement and use of high technology equipment, and methods of conducting technology-related investigations. - Book Description

Each page in your Web site should have unique <META> tags based on the content of that particular page. <META> tags are "labels" intended to be found by the search engines Web bots for indexing, and every page should be indexed, not only the home page. <META> tags give your Web site a concise description, keywords, and other information about your site. These <META> tags do not appear on the face of the pages in your Web site, but are in the HTML code for the search engine Web bots.

HARTFORD In an effort to further enhance the attorney disciplinary process, the Judicial Branch announced today the formation of the Commission to Study the Attorney Grievance Process. The Commission is charged with conducting a comprehensive review of the attorney disciplinary system in Connecticut and making recommendations to address how the current system can be improved. Currently, the judges of the Connecticut Superior Court delegate much of the attorney disciplinary review process to the Statewide Grievance Committee and to the Judicial District Grievance Panels. These groups are comprised of dedicated volunteers attorneys and non-attorneys alike and are assisted by Judicial Branch staff. "The regulation of attorneys admitted to practice law in the state of Connecticut is one of the many important functions of the judiciary," Chief Justice Francis M. McDonald, Jr. said. "A major part of that responsibility is the attorney disciplinary process by which claims of attorney misconduct are investigated and resolved. Our current system of disciplining attorneys is continuously examined, as evidenced by the improvements adopted over the years by Superior Court judges through the rule making process. However, a comprehensive review of the disciplinary system should be undertaken periodically."
