The aurora is the alleged topsecret hypersonic aircraft built for and flown by the United States government.

Welcome to the original, longest-running website devoted to the secret Aurora hypersonic aircraft. It was widely rumored in the late 1980s and early 1990s that the Aurora was developed to replace the SR-71 Blackbird, and it is believed to fly at speeds beyond Mach 6. The Aurora has been linked to sonic booms recorded in Southern California, and it was allegedly spotted from an oil platform in the North Sea. However, the United States government denies its existence, and no absolute evidence has ever confirmed the rumors. The Aurora Aircraft Page seeks to provide information for interested visitors to divide fact from fiction in the search for the Aurora.
News Faked Aurora Photos Published
[21 January 2003] In October 2002, the AAP reported that several alleged photos of the Aurora had surfaced. The photos were posted HERE on the A-10 forums, and they were stirring renewed interest and debate about the Aurora. The AAP continued to learn about the photos, and it was discovered that the photos were actually of a modified Testors XR-7 Thunder Dart rocket model (as seen in THIS image). But the interest generated by the photos could not be ignored. To some, the reality of the faked photos was less important than the possibility of the Aurora itself. The creator of the photos eventually saw his work published in the November 2002 issue of Aircraft Illustrated magazine, along with his detailed description of his work to make the photos look convincing.

Where, Experience, Exposures and Film I live 48 miles south of the Arctic Circle in Circle, Alaska . It is a small town with a population of 107. No city water or sewer but we do have power and telephone. I've been here for 35 years and have been photographing the aurora for the last 12 years. Circle is on the banks of the Yukon River and at the end of the Steese Highway. Circle was thought to be on the Arctic Circle when established in 1893. The old timers were not too far off. Can you believe running the Internet at 9600? Toll charges to boot, not many people in the bush do. Earth station upgrade came in April, 2000. The upgrade wasn't much so now I'm a Starband satellite dish user getting a PC education, :-( At least I'm networking my Macs. I get to do a lot of aurora watching and shooting here in Circle, the short days of winter give me plenty of opportunity.

RNC learning about snowmobile safety from local detachment
By DANETTE DOOLEY
Special to The Aurora
Well trained and experienced in patrolling on snowmobile, Cst. Giles has held positions on local, provincial and national snowmobile boards. He has close ties with the Ontario Provincial Police and is often invited to participate in their snowmobile training sessions.
More than 70 per cent of fatal snowmobile accidents involve alcohol. When patrolling on snowmobiles, Cst. Giles says police keep an eye out for such things as impaired and reckless drivers, as well as illegal changes the owner may have made to the machine. While much of the work is in education, officers also take an enforcement role when patrolling on snowmobiles.
The initiative is a great example of police interaction with children in a proactive way. The checkpoints have gone over so well that kids often call the detachment asking when the officers will be on the trails again.

Oldsmobile Aurora (2001)
The first question everyone asks is, "Is this your father's Oldsmobile?" That's probably not the right question, since your father has probably been driving Camrys and Accords for a generation now. So the real question is, "Is this your grandfather's Oldsmobile?" Fortunately, it's not. The Aurora was the first "new generation" Oldsmobile that the company put out back in 1994. At the time, Oldsmobile was a dying brand, with old, stodgy cars and fewer and fewer nongeriatric customers. The Aurora was supposed to change all that. Unfortunately, if you read the news that GM is dropping the Oldsmobile brand, you know it didn't work. Well, the first Aurora was still your grandfather's Oldsmobile. It certainly looked more powerful and less stodgy, but underneath, it was pretty much the same heavy, soft Oldsmobile that Grandpa would happily have driven to bingo. And seven years later, Olds sales are still sputtering along. So here comes the 2001 Oldsmobile Auroraand it's better. But GM has decided it's not good enough to save Oldsmobile. The engine, probably the old Aurora's best feature, is carried over. It's still powerful and smooth. The rest of the car was put on a diet and took off just under 300 pounds. It also lost about six unnecessary inches in the process. The result is a midsize, American-style car that rides and handles pretty well. It's not a BMW or a Lexus, but it's a nice, firm riding sedan. And the advantage it has over the other "near luxury" cars in its price class (cars.com target price of $34,400) is its V8 engine.

What is an Aurora? According to my dictionary:
  • A display of arcs, bands, streamers, etc., of light occasionally seen in the skies of polar latitudes.
  • The dawn. In Roman mythology, Aurora was the goddess of the dawn.
  • The name given the awards presented annually for some of the best in Canadian SF and fantasy. Collectively known as the Prix Aurora Awards
The Aurora awards are closest to the style of the Hugo awards (which are presented by the SF Worldcon) in the method by which they are selected. First there is a nomination phase to select a short list. Then a voting phase to pick the winner from the short list using the Australian voting method (this method has the voter rank their choices in each category).
Each year a different convention or group has hosted the awards. The awards are financed by voting fees, by donations and by the host convention. There is no permanent funding.
Host for 2003 is Torcon 3 (www.torcon3.on.ca). To be held August 28 to September 1, 2003 in Toronto, Ontario. Torcon 3 is the 61st World Science Fiction Convention (4th time it's been held in Canada).

About the South Dakota GenWeb Project
In June, 1996, a group of genealogists organized the South Dakota Comprehensive Genealogy Database. The idea was to provide a single entry point for all counties in South Dakota, where collected databases would be stored. In addition, the databases would be indexed and cross-linked, so that even if an individual were found in more than one county, they could be located in the index. At the same time, volunteers were found who were willing to coordinate the collection of databases and generally oversee the contents of the web page. The persons responsible for this county are
