The Cambridge Companion to Australian Literature
Edited by Elizabeth Webby
Hardback In stock This book introduces in a lively and succinct way the major writers, literary movements, styles and genres that, at the beginning of a new century, are seen as constituting the field of ‘Australian literature’. The book consciously takes a perspective that sees literary works not as aesthetic objects created in isolation by unique individuals, but as cultural products influenced and constrained by the social, political and economic circumstances of their times, as well as by geographical and environmental factors. It covers indigenous texts, colonial writing and reading, poetry, fiction and theatre throughout two centuries, biography and autobiography, and literary criticism in Australia. Other features of the companion are a chronology listing significant historical and literary events, and suggestions for further reading.
Reviews
‘… the revolutionary ways in which Australian literary critics and writers have responded to the "arrival" of feminism, postmodernism, postcolonialism and queer theory have created an exciting, complex and confident field of criticism - one that is given vibrant expression in The Cambridge Companion to Australian Literature.’ Mary Ellen, Times Literary Supplement

Welcome to OzLit.
This website provides easy access to Australian Public Domain Literature.
The idea is not to replace any of the excellent resources already available but to provide a place where you can 'flip open' your browser and quietly enjoy a few minutes reading.
Currently the website is very basic, providing a resource over a journey into the wonders of computer graphics and the latest technologies. This is for two reasons, first we are concentrating on bringing content online and second it will be quicker for those who are still on modem connections.
The webmaster of OzLit.com would love to have feedback on the website. We would particularly like to hear what literature you would like OzLit to source and how we could improve your experience while visiting our site. Brief TODO List:
  • Possible add member ids just so I can implement more advanced features
  • Add Bookmarks and Bookshelf - Might require member ids
  • More Options for displaying books/text
  • Downloads of entire books
  • Add more books

The Academy Editions of Australian Literature provide, for the first time, a library of our national literary heritage. Each volume has a meticulously prepared reading text, an accurate record of textual variants in existing unpublished versions and in all editions published in the author's lifetime, a comprehensive essay on the publishing and reception history of the work, and extensive explanatory notes to place it, for today's readers and scholars, in the context of its times. Initiated by the Australian Academy of the Humanities in 1992, with a grant from the Australian Research Council, the project is headquartered at the Australian Scholarly Editions Centre at University College, Australian Defence Force Academy, Canberra. The series General Editor, Paul Eggert, is Associate Professor in the Department of English and Director of the Centre. This ongoing project is a national co-operative venture, with membership of its Editorial and Advisory Boards and editors of individual volumes drawn from many universities around Australia. Volumes now available in the series include:
  • The Recollections of Geoffry Hamlyn

You might find the Australian Literature Gateway of interest. AusLit was
produced (and is maintained) by the Australian Defence Force Academy at the
University of New South Wales with funding from the Australian Research
Council. It is notable because it is the first implementation of the IFLA
Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records (1998), which implements
    the work-expression-manifestation-item model.
While it will eventually only be available by subscription, it is free for
    a trial period at http://www.austlit.edu.au
The manual for creating records can be found here: http://www.austlit.edu.au/common/manual/WorksContents.html In addition to the implementation of the IFLA model, it is also noteworthy for its use of standards and innovative technology. · Java 1.3 programming language and runtime

    60. Baby Boomers. Australian Literature About 1950's Post War Family Life
Autobiographical memoir of 'a more innocent time'; available on CDRom only.Category Shopping Publications Digital......australian literature about the baby boomers and the 1950's post war family lifein Queensland Australia and Great Britian by Patricia Labzin ARDALAN.
    http://www.boombabies.net/
Baby Boomers and all travellers to the 1950s! Welcome!
Baby Boomers! FRAGMENTS of the 50s, a new addition to Australian literature, was written (as well as spoken by the author, a baby boomer) from the backdrop of crumbling post-war Britain to distant Australian country life. It's a heart-warming memoir about post-war family life in the Aussie bush in the 1950s. Patricia's father is a Scottish ex-Navy man, full of fun and adventure, suffering wartime nightmares of his World War II experiences (in days before the term Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome had been coined). Her Shetlander mother is gorgeous and a great baker who shares her recipes with you. Written and told with vitality, compassion and wit. Bound to keep you spellbound, it has been likened to an Aussie Darling Buds of May . Cartoons by Johannes Selhofer. Music by Ghost Music. For the time being, an e-book is available on CD-ROM for PC Only which you can buy online in a secure shopping environment. We use SSL (Secure Socket Layers) which is designed to encrypt and protect your credit card details. Or you can buy by mail or phone (what we call "Fail or Moan"). The paper book will be available before the end of the year. See the Order Page for details.
