Back to School Organization
By Rachel Webb Websites Newsgroups Mailing Lists Safety
Soon our homes will be filled with the sounds of "Mom, where is my homework?" As moms everywhere get geared up to battle the Back to School stress and vow once again to be more organized This year, let me offer some preventative medicine and time saving tips. Mark the Stuff! Notes from Home A friend of mine who is an elementary school secretary, spends most of her morning sorting through a "ga-zillion" unmarked notes and wads of lunch money. She suggests that before the school year starts, pre-mark envelopes with your child’s name and grade on it. You may want to get a rubber stamp made up or order personalized address labels. Get Free labels at http://www.FreeAddressLabels.com You can use them for lunch money envelopes, identifying books, returning fieldtrip permission slip’s, etc. Photocopy Parental Release Forms How many times are you going to fill out the emergency medical form, you know, the one required by every school. One for every child. I have 4 children x 13 years of school = 52 times! What a waste of time! This tip was shared by Anita from Ohio she pointed out that It can be very tedious looking up address and phone number of the doctor, dentist, hospital, family friend

When planning PTA activities, consider projects in each of the six standards to ensure a comprehensive approach to parent involvement. PTA projects should supplement and enhance those sponsored by the school. Some projects or activities may address more than one standard, such as a project that enhances parenting skills and student learning, or a project that combines volunteering and collaborating with community. Forty-Four Proven Ideas Parents Can Use to Help Their Children Do Better in School
Making Time Count
  • Put specific times on your calendar each week when you will spend time with your children. During that time, focus your love and attention on your child. Use car time to talk with your children. There's no phone or TV to interfere. No one can get up and leave. And kids know they really have your ear. Plan to eat at least one meal together as a family each day. Look for things to do together as a family. Get everyone involved in choosing how to spend your time together. Try giving children TV tickets. Each week, each child gets 20 TV tickets. Each ticket can be used for 30 minutes of TV time. Any tickets remaining at the end of the week can be cashed in for 25 cents each. Parents can still veto a certain program, of course. Reading to Your Child Try relaxing your family's bedtime rules once a week on the weekend. Let your child know that he can stay up as late as he wants-as long as he's reading in bed.
