Guidance and Culture:
The Guidance and Culture Directorate the Defence Force is concerned with information and propaganda and arms at preserving the morale of the men of the Defence Force and spreading cultural consciousness among them so that their general knowledge is enhanced particularly in the military field. In this regard the Guidance and Culture Directorate performs the following tasks :
Firstly: Religious Guidance:
The Defence Force devotes considerable attention to the spiritual aspect of the soldier's faith as the basis of faith in God and the conviction arising out of it to struggle in the cause of God in order to cement the morale factor in the personality of the soldier under the banner of Islam and the tradition of' the Holy Prophet. Hence great attention is paid to sowing the seeds of religious values scrupulously in the Defence Force. His Highness the Commander-in-Chief has ordered that religious guidance should reach the soldiers no matter where they were and where their units were located; whether they be in trenches or in their tanks or vehicles bearing their weapons in their various positions, either directly or through the various media available with the Defence Force such as special broadcasts or television programmes and through the magazine 'Alquwwa' which is issued by the Directorate or through other media such as magazines, booklets, libraries, etc. To impart religious culture and religious consciousness to soldiers is a sacred duty. Similarly the celebrations of important religious occasions and the remembrance of the glories and the victories of the Islamic campaigners are occasions whose importance should be emphasised to the soldiers. The leaders of Islam have been examples of noble conduct motivated by high principles.

The Persians of Bahrain While it is true that Persians dominate the country of Iran, many others live scattered throughout the Middle East in such countries as Iraq and Bahrain. The Persians living in Bahrain are the second largest people group of that country; however, they are still a minority since they make up less than fifteen percent of its population. Bahrain, a predominantly Arab country, is made up of a cluster of more than 30 desert islands off the eastern coast of Saudi Arabia. These islands are located in the heart of the Persian Gulf. Centuries ago, Persians wandered south from the area near the Caspian Sea into regions west of the Persian Gulf. These regions are known today as Iran and Afghanistan. By 500 BC, they had built a powerful empire that governed most of the known world. They called themselves Aryans , from which we get the word Iran. Later they became known as Persians, which comes from the Greek word Persis, or name of the region. Their language, Farsi, is a combination of the old Persian language mixed with Arabic. What Are Their Lives Like?

Beaches, souks, Middle Eastern culture, camels and ancient history are the Kingdom of Bahrain's chief attractions. Bahrain will appeal to all, especially seasoned travelers who will bask in the beauty of the region and its history, but who will also enjoy its modern conveniences. This ancient island kingdom in the Arabian/Persian Gulf was settled relatively early because it had what surrounding areas lacked: fresh water and soil fit for cultivation. Some even claim Bahrain was the biblical Garden of Eden. As early as 2000 BC, Bahrain was an important trade centre, fuelled by an abundance of pearls in the waters offshore. The pearls attracted Babylonians, Assyrians and Greeks, all of whom left their mark on the country. In fact, pearls remained Bahrain's best-known commodity for thousands of years. The Kingdom of Bahrain is a constitutional monarchy governed by the Al-Khalifa family with a parliament in place, membership being open to all Bahrainis, including women. The Kingdom of Bahrain, a group of 33 islands, with an area of 707 square kilometres, is situated in the Arabian Gulf, off the east coast of Saudi Arabia with local time of GMT + 3 hours. Although the official language is Arabic, English is widely understood and it's used by all businesses. Islam is the religion of Bahrain and is practised by a large majority, but places of worship of other faiths are available and are practiced freely in the Kingdom.

    HISTORY
Bahrain is culturally, politically and economically diverse. The Bahraini people as a whole are exceedingly courteous and welcome guests visiting their country. The Arab countries along the Arabian Gulf form a geographically and culturally distinct sub-entity. These countries also make up the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). The six member states are Kuwait, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E) and the Sultanate of Oman. The population is around 600,000 with the population heavily concentrated in the northern third of the main island and Muharraq. A trip to the National Museum and tourist site information available at the Rec. Center is recommended to get a feel for the country's history and to identify sites of potential interest for you to visit. There are several forts, outstanding museums, beaches and a wildlife sanctuary located on the island. Statistical Tables King Fahd Causeway (Bahrain Causeway) Probably the most spectacular road construction project of all has been the building of the King Fahd Causeway, connecting the Saudi Arabian mainland with the island of Bahrain. On 11th November, 1982, the cornerstone of the bridge was jointly placed by King Fahd and the then ruler of Bahrain, Sheikh Isa bin Salman Al-Khalifa. This is a four-lane highway, 25 meters wide and about 26 kilometers long. Building works, costing US$ 1.2 billion, financed entirely by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, were completed in 1986 (1406/07 AH) and the Causeway was opened to traffic at the end of that year. In 2001, 2.7 million cars, carrying over 10 million passenges, had used this causeway. Site search: Related Items King Fahd Causeway, linking the Kingdom to Bahrain See also: Main reference point:
