My Story…
In my soaps, I use pure and natural ingredients... infused herbal oils, vegetable oils, essential oils, mountain spring water, organic herbs and botanicals.
I collect many natural items to incorporate into my basketry. Antlers, driftwood, roots, beargrass, Red Osier dogwood, willow, snowberry, alder, Rocky Mountain maple, cattail, cones, and other naturals often find their way into my baskets, which I feel give the baskets a native flavor. As natural items are each unique, each basket is a one-of-a-kind creation. Photographs of some of my Antler Baskets and Traditional Baskets are shown on my site, but all are made to order, allowing you to choose a basket that will fit your lifestyle and décor!

MILL RACE BASKET GUILD
Thanks and appreciation to the Mill Race Historical Society
Board of Directors for the use of this artwork
Mill Race basket weavers meet monthly in Northville's quaint historical Mill Race Village. The history of Northville, Michigan is preserved at the Mill Race. Established in 1972 by the Northville Historical Society, the Village serves as a focal point for the community while preserving architectural styles common to the area prior to 1900. The Village consists of a church, gazebo, school, rustic wooden bridge, blacksmith shop, Interurban Station, and several homes of an era gone by.
The basket weavers meet at the Cady Inn. The salt-box style building is believed to have been a tavern and early stage coach stop. Local legend says the building served as a stopping point for the underground railroad prior to the Civil War.
The creed of the basket weavers is to preserve the ancient art of basketry, while incorporating traditional techniques. The Mill Race Basket Guild is not designed to make baskets for profit, although the guild participates in a few juried events sponsored by the Historical Society throughout the year. I have been a member since 1987. From time to time the Guild will have a well known guest come to teach a workshop. Most months we take turns with the 'program' and being hostess. There is a short formal meeting each month. Prospective members are required to be juried into the Guild as experience is mandatory. The Mill Race Basket Guild has changed over the years but its Bylaws are respected, as is the ancient art of basket weaving.

Flowing Water by Jackie Carlson
Cherokee Diagonal Twill Double Weave Basket
Summer Meadow Basketry is a family owned and operated business located in western Michigan near the shores of Lake Michigan. As a child, my husband found arrowheads along the shore of Mona Lake near the meadow in which we built our house. He believes the Indians spent the summers camped in the meadow, thus the name of our business - Summer Meadow Basketry. In 1988, I enrolled in a basket weaving class and it has been my passion ever since.
For many years I have enjoyed teaching others, designing patterns, and providing supplies for my students. On more occasions than I care to count, I was asked, "Where can I buy supplies?".
Summer Meadow Basketry has been providing superior quality supplies
at affordable prices to weavers in our area since 1989.
Our business has prospered due to our commitment to customer service.
Summer Meadow Basketry carries a complete line of superior quality basket weaving supplies.

Welcome
McGee's Indian Art Gallery maintains a gallery and gift shop at Keams Canyon, on the Hopi Reservation. Originally started as a trading post by Thomas Keam, in 1874, he sold it to Lorenzo Hubbell in 1902. The McGee family bought the trading post in 1938, with Ron McGee presently managing the crafts and gifts gallery. Being located on the Hopi Reservation, McGee's Indian Art Gallery has become the focal point for buying Hopi crafts and then merchandising them to collectors around the world. McGee's Indian Art is the prime source for Hopi arts and crafts.
The Keams Canyon trading post and gallery are also located only five miles from the Navajo Reservation, meaning a continuing inflow of Navajo Rugs and Jewelry. McGee's is your access to the finest Hopi and Navajo arts and crafts, brought to you at reservation prices. Ron McGee emphatically states: We only show and sell genuine, Native American made arts and crafts, most coming from within a few miles of our gallery.

60. Peggy Sanders Brennan Weaves And Teaches Cherokee Baskets With Old And New Tradi
Cherokee basket weaver and teacher, Peggy Sanders Brennan, preserves, promotes and perpetuates the Oklahoma Indian basketry traditions.
http://www.angelfire.com/ok3/basketry/
Cherokee and other Southeast Indian double woven baskets are the oldest form of basketry in the Southeast. By varying the under/over interval, bias plaiting has been used to create other decorative structural patterns such as zigzags and diamonds. Before the Cherokee were removed baskets were an integral part of the women's role in the tribe. Each clan had distinct basket patterns. Weaving Cherokee basket twill patterns honors Ka no he lv hi, the old ways. The designs Mountain Peaks, Peace Pipe, Flowing Water and Man in Coffin conjure visions of ancient Cherokee culture. It is said our baskets manifest joys, sorrows, dreams, ideals and longings for the beautiful. About My Baskets
Creating baskets and teaching the old designs is my way of living. By weaving I maintain a connection to the Earth, to all my Relations and to the Great Mystery. I give thanks for my gifts.
I am a registered tribal member of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma. Click here to go to the official tribal web site.
