Inland Bearded Dragons.... (Pogona vitticeps) Longevity: 7 to 10 years (Good Captive Conditions) Size: up to two feet Behaviors: Beard display: Defensive behavior (primarily by males and more readily during breeding season. Arm waving: Young, often when larger dragons are in sight and during basking, older females, during breeding when males get to aggressive. This behavior is not common in older males unless another more aggressive male is present. Head Bobbing: Aggressive action in males, drastic (usually rapid) up and down head movement. Females and babies do little head bobs usually to get attention before another action such as waving or bowing. Bowing: Up in down motion by females, slow push ups, submissive behavior. Gaping: When basking or in direct sunlight, dragons may gape to cool down. If they have no access to shade you need to move them to a cooler location. Enclosures: Number of animals per enclosure: Bearded dragons can be kept singly or in sexual pairs; also in breeding groups consisting of one male and two or more females. Two males with several females may be kept together in larger enclosures, two basking areas should be provided and still expect some fighting among males during breeding season. The minimum requirements that allow for a good quality of life: Indoor vivaria: 36"Lx16"Wx17"H (may be smaller for a single dragon) but a larger vivarium is preferred.

The Inland Bearded Dragon or Pogona vitticeps, is one of the most popular pets in the reptile trade today. It originates from various parts of Australia, frequenting the warm sandy deserts of Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and the Northern Territory. Dragons are very docile, but will sometimes be seen flaring out their beard or bobbing their head to show dominance and interest in breeding. Although they can be costly, beardeds are a wonderful choice for everyone from beginners to long time collectors alike. They are easy to maintain in captivity as long as their basic needs are met. Bearded Dragons are a medium sized lizard obtaining a length of 18" to 24". We think they are as close to a dog as you are going to get, running up to the glass to greet you whenever you enter to room, and seeming to almost enjoy being held.

Care and Feeding of Iguanas By Christine Hancock Bearded Dragons and Uromastyx The bearded dragon and the uromastyx are recognized as wonderful pets due to their calm, easy to handle, domestic nature. Full grown, these lizards reach approximately one foot, making them a moderate and reasonable size. Both the bearded dragon and the uromastyx are colorful, and can be extremely impressive in a uniquely designed vivarium. These easy to care for animals are becoming one of the top selling lizards in today’s reptile trade. These reptiles are generally ground or rock dwellers, and dig deep tunnels in the wild. Long hot days and nights are spent keeping cool in these tunnels. Some of these reptiles like to climb, and bask in the sunlight on top of branches, fence posts, large rocks and wood. Diet
Bearded dragons and uromastyx eat both plant products and insects. Juvenile lizards should be fed crickets, mealworms, wax worms and other various insects at least 3-4 times weekly. Most juvenile lizards favor insects over plant matter. Adult diets include 60-75% of leafy greens, such as mustard greens, collard greens, kale, endive, and spinach. Twenty-five to 40 percent of the plant diet consists of frozen vegetables (peas, carrots, green beans, lima beans), grated carrots, squash, or other such vegetables. Adults should be offered fresh plant matter daily and live foods every 7-10 days. Bearded dragons and uromastyx obtain most of their water intake through the plant products they obtain. It is a good idea to mist them off daily, several times a day for juvenile’s, and soak them weekly. To soak these reptiles, place them in a shallow bowl of lukewarm water for about ten minutes. If you decide to leave a water bowl in the lizard’s cage, be sure to clean it well every few days to prevent bacterial and fungal growth.

http://animal.discovery.com/convergence/lizards/blood/heads.html
Heads, I Win... Defensive-minded lizards can effectively use their heads as both bona fide weapons and instruments of psychological leverage. Some chameleons are equipped with horns or horn-like appendages (the former are hard and bony, the latter are flexible) that turn them into four-legged battering rams. Similarly, the horned agama, native to Sri Lanka, wields a small horn on the tip of its nose. Some lizards, such as the Australian thorny devil, sport a head (as well as a body) covered with large, imposing spikes. Other lizards have the equivalent of helmets atop their heads, while so-called plated lizards are outfitted with special shields on the front part of the head. The toad-headed agama has mustache-like folds of skin on either side of its mouth that are distended during threat displays, and, with its mouth agape, enlarge the apparent size of its head. The bearded dragon has both the physical and psychological spectrum covered: This 2-foot Australian lizard is equipped with a spiny flap of skin on its throat that is in its own right intimidating. But when this dragon needs an edge, it can unfurl that "beard" to ominous proportions.
