Belarus: History
After seven decades as a constituent republic of the USSR, Belarus attained its independence in 1991. It has retained closer political and economic ties to Russia than any of the other former Soviet republics. Belarus and Russia signed a treaty on a two-state union on 8 December 1999 envisioning greater political and economic integration but, to date, neither side has actively sought to implement the accord.

History of Belarus Early Inhabitants The first recorded settlements date back to the 6th century AD. Initially, the entire Belarusian ethnic area was inhabited by Baltic tribes. In the sixth to seventh centuries A.D., Slavic tribes came from the west. The Slavs fused with the Balts to form a new Balto-Slavic nation: the ancestors of today's Belarusians. The prevalent language became Slavic - Old Belarusian - but retained many Baltic elements in its pronunciation and vocabulary. These Slavic tribes all adopted Christianity in its Eastern Orthodox from the Kievan Russians. For some time they were also politically dependent on Kiev. However, the Kryvicy soon established their own state in the north - the Duchy of Palacak. Later, the duchies of Turau-Pinsk and Novaharodak (Novgorod) were established in the south and southwest respectively. The territory of the duchy of Novaharodak, which had been colonized by both the Kryvicy and the Dryhvicy, extended along the Nioman river between Horadzien (currently know as Hrodna or Grodno ) in the west and Novaharodak in the east.

    History of Belarus
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. The history of Belarus begins with the migration and expansion of the Slavs throughout Eastern Europe between the 6th and 8th centuries of the Common Era. East Slavs settled on the territory within present-day Belarus, Russia and Ukraine , assimilating local Baltic (Belarus), Ugro-Finnic (Russia) and steppe nomads (Ukraine) already living there, early ethnic integrations that contributed to the gradual differentation of the three East Slavic nations. These East Slavs were pagan animistic , agrarian people whose economy included trade in agricultural produce, game, furs honey beeswax and amber During the 9th and 10th centuries, a cohesive East Slavic civilization evolved through military and societal organization by

    History (A brief survey)
Ancient stands of people on the territory of Belarus already existed 25 thousand years ago. In the 6th-8th centuries Slavonic tribes living between the Elbe and the Vistula began to settle to the South and the East, as well as on the territory of Belarus where they assimilated gradually the majority of local Baltic tribes. The most ancient city in Belarus is Polotsk known since 862. By the end of the 10th century two principalities had been known - Polotsk and Turov Principalities which were probably dependent on the Kiev prince. In 1230th the Grand Duchy of Lithuania with the center in Novogrudok (between Minsk and Grodno) emerged on the territory of Belarus, During the next hundred years a greater part of contemporary Belarus was incorporated into the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Vilnius became its capital in the 14th century. In the result of the subsequent growth in the end of the 14th century, the Grand Duchy of Lithuania became one among the largest multinational European states the borders of which were stretching beyond Smolensk in the East, and up to the Black Sea in the South. In 1410 in the battle at Grunvald the troops of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and Poland inflicted a defeat to the crusaders of the Teutonic Order that allowed to secure the northwestern borders. The Crimean Khanet and the Moscow Principality were the main threat to the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, In the struggle with the Crimean Khanet the Grand Duchy of Lithuania gradually lost a number of its provinces in the South, and only in 1527, after the victory at Kanev (the Ukraine), the advancement of Tartars to the North was stopped. The relations between the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the Moscow Principality in the 14th-16th centuries were often hostile. In the first years of the Livon War (1558-1583) the Moscow Principality was enjoying a military success. As a result, it occupied Polotsk and its vicinity. The attempts of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania to return Polotsk with its own forces did not succeed and in 1569 the Grand Duchy of Lithuania united with the Polish Kingdom into a federation - Rzech Pospolita. In 1583, the joined forces of Rzech Pospolita won back from Moscow the lost territories; thus the Livon War ceased.

    History
Belarus has been inhabited since prehistoric times, and the first
recorded settlements date back to the 6th century AD. The princes of
Kiev ruled Belarus until the invasion of the Mongols in 1240, when
most of its towns were destroyed.
The region came under the control of powerful Lithuanians and, in
1386, under the Lithuanian-Polish Jagiellonian Dynasty. For centuries, the Poles and the Muscovites struggled bitterly over Belarus. In 1772, Catherine the Great gained control over part of the country, and, by 1795, Russia ruled all of Belarus. During the 19th and 20th centuries, the country again became a European battleground. Napoleon passed through Belarusand fought therein 1812, and the Germans fought the Soviets on Belarusian territory in World War I. Although a Soviet Socialist Republic was proclaimed in January 1919, fighting with Poland continued until 1921. Belarus suffered heavy losses in World War II, when some 2.2 million

The old-school learnin' continues here at LCS Hockey. When the Winter Olympics started two weeks ago, a lot of people were surprised to see an entry in men's hockey from a team named Belarus. BelaWho? Most people in North America never heard of the Republic of Belarus until the Games, let alone where it was located. So in order to clue you, our valued reader, in to world politics, LCS Hockey did some research into the subject and found the history of Belarus to be very intriguing. The following is a factual account of some of the recent past of the Republic of Belarus for your enjoyment. Belarus remained under communist control until its demise in 1991 when the Soviet Union fell. On Aug. 25, 1991, Belarus once again declared its independence and on Dec. 8 Belarus, Russia and Ukraine formed the Commonwealth of Independent States. But by the time Belarus declared independence, the country had a more serious problem to deal with. The explosion at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in the Ukraine in 1986 had devastating effects on Belarus. Seventy percent of the fallout from Chernobyl landed right on the southwest part of Belarus due to the direction the winds blew. That meant the explosion, which was equal in radiation to 150 Hiroshima atomic bombs, contaminated one fifth of Belarus and exposed 2.5 million people directly to radiation. The rest of Belarus, however, was also affected. There is now a decrease in national health in Belarus - cancer levels are up, genetic mutations are up and leukemia has also increased. This is only the first wave of effects to hit Belarus. The radiation in the ground will remain there for thousands of years, and no one is really sure what kind of long-term effects it will have on the country.

    History
The first written document of the Belarusan statehood goes far back as 980 AD when Prince Rogvold began his reign on Polotsk lands which are the historic and religious center of the Belarusan nation and culture. The formation of the features of Belarusan people began in special socioeconomic and political conditions of the Polotsk Principality. The young, fast growing state made close trade ties with German (Hansa) cities, with Scandinavia, neighboring eastern and southern principalities. On the Polotsk territory under the influence of local cultural views the traditions of Byzantine architecture were revaluated and as a result the outstanding Polotsk architecture school emerged in the 12th century. It greatly influenced the architecture of Smolensk and Vladimir-Suzdal principalities and later of the Moscow state. From the 13th till the 16th century the territory of contemporary Belarus was the center of a medieval polyethnic state-Grand Duchy of Litva. The Grand Duchy of Litva which is sometimes called by historians Belarusan-Lithuanian state was one of the largest, most powerful and flourishing states in medieval Eastern Europe. The lands of contemporary Belarus, Lithuania, Ukraine and a part of Russia comprised this state. The large role of ethnic Belarusans in this state is proved by the fact that the state language in the Grand Duchy of Litva was Belarusan. Grand Duchy of Litva-Belarusan-Lithuanian State in 13-16 centuries In 1569 the Grand Duchy of Litva and the Polish Kingdom established a political union according to which the Litva-Poland confederation- Rzecz Pospolita-emerged. As a result of three divisions of Rzecz Pospolita in 1772, 1793 and 1795 between three empires - Russia, Austria and Prussia - the Belarusan lands were incorporated into the Russian Empire. So the third division of Rzecz Pospolita in 1795 practically checked the development of Belarusan statehood for more than 100 years.

Belarus Time and Date Belarus History Back to Top Human settlement in Belarusian territory dates to prehistoric times, but there is no consensus among scholars on the origins of the Belarusian state. The three early Slavic tribes from which the Belarusians are believed to have derived are the Krivichi, Dregovichi, and Radimichi, who between the 6th and 8th centuries settled first on the Daugava (Western Daugava) River and later in the vicinity of the Pripyat’ and Sozh rivers. The medieval period of Belarusian history dates most notably from the last quarter of the 10th century, when Prince Rogvold ruled the local principality of Polotsk (Polatsk). In the late 10th century Polotsk was annexed into Kievan Rus, the first significant East Slavic state. At least three principalities—Smolensk, Polotsk, and Turov-Pinsk—existed on what later became Belarusian territory. The Tatar invasions that destroyed Kievan Rus and the city of Kiev (Kyiv) in 1240 left Belarusian territory relatively unscathed.

    Introduction
The Republic of Belarus is one of what is called for convenience the former Soviet republics. This country is relatively new to most of the world, and people in the West as a rule only know what rare comments in modern history textbooks can tell them. These comments are mostly related to the years after the 1917 revolution in Russia. However, the independence of Belarus is not occassional and even not the first in its history. Belarus has its own language, culture, heritage and, of course, history, as does any other country of the world. The reason why Belarus is still generally unknown to the world is that most of its historical facts were hidden or artificially assimilated with Russian and Soviet histories. The current situation in Belarus does not encourage a lot of information about the republic to be disseminated. I myself have learned most of the facts a relatively short time ago, when true historic evidence of Belarus past became available. I hope that these notes will be helpful for all interested people who are eager to find out more about the history of this old and original country.

Sometimes it is hard to imagine, that there is great multitude of people around the Earth united by one great Person. This Man was looking just like all of us, yet He performed inconceivable miracles. Of course, everybody heard of Him. Jesus proved indeed that He is the Christ, He is the one and only real Lord. And those who believed in Christ as in the Savior are the part of the great God's family. In this family all of us - orthodox, catholic, protestant christians - are brothers and sisters. God calls his children everybody who believes in Jesus Christ and trusts in Him (I John 5:1). "One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all." (Eph.4:6)
    History of the church:
Pastor recollects In 1991 in Minsk several believers started to come together. It was the beginning of the ministry of the Church of Jesus Christ in Minsk, Full-Gospel church. God chose Benjamin and Nelli Brukh to do this work to build this local church in Minsk. From the story of Benjamin and Nelli: In January 1991 we were called by God to study in the Bible School "Christ to the World" that was in the Latvian city Jelgava. This school was headed by Steve Bradkovich, man of amazing faith who committed his life to minister to God and to people. Our teachers filled with love and compassion had great vision - to create thousands of churches across the Soviet Union and to help people. They were able to transfer this vision into us, their students.
