U.S. backs Government in its battle against GlobalTel
By Jeannine Klein
(News from 2002-01-11 Edition) GOVERNMENT is claiming a major victory in its push against illegal telephone call-back services.
A U.S. telecommunications licensing authority has ruled in favour of the Bermuda Government in its dispute with American call-back service provider GlobalTel.
The move comes following a complaint by Government to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) last winter that GlobalTel was illegally operating on the island.
Call-back allows customers outside the U.S. access to U.S. based international lines by placing a signalling call to the call-back service’s switch overseas. The switch then automatically returns the call, providing the caller with a U.S. dial tone and allowing the call to be billed at U.S. rates.
Yesterday, Minister of Telecommunications, Renee Webb announced that the FCC had issued a formal letter to GlobalTel pointing out that offering such services in Bermuda was in violation of our Telecommunications Act and could be punishable by statutory penalties.
The letter stated that “… U.S. providers of callback service must operate in a manner that is consistent with the countries in which they operate.”

The shade of red used on official Union Jacks and derived flags is "dark red" (aka "Post Office red"), as also in the national flags of Danmark USA ("Old Glory red")
or Kenia : darker than the shade of red of most flags, but lighter that Latvia or Georgia . The RGB equivalent would be RGB:204-0-0
Antonio Martins , 13 September 2000 The shade of red on British Union flags and derived ensigns is indeed a dark red. The Pantone reference is 186. It is slightly different from "Old Glory" red which is Pantone 185.
Graham Bartram , 13 September 2000 From http://www.geocities.com/p_taggett/bermuda/0021.html
"The national flag of Bermuda is composed of a red background with the Union Flag (or Jack) in the upper left corner and the Bermuda coat of arms in the lower fly. From 1910, when Bermuda received its own Coat of Arms, unofficial versions of the Union Flag incorporating the Arms appeared in Bermuda. The present national flag was officially approved in October of 1967."
There is also a picture showing the reverse side of the flag.

    GOVERNMENT AND POLITICAL CONDITIONS
Bermuda is the oldest self-governing colony in the British Commonwealth and has a great degree of internal autonomy. Its 1968 constitution provided the island with formal responsibility for internal self-government, while the British Government retained responsibility for external affairs, defense, and security. The Bermudian Government is always consulted on any international negotiations affecting the colony. Bermuda participates, through British delegations, in the UN and some of its specialized and related agencies.
    Government Structure
Queen Elizabeth II is chief of state and is represented in Bermuda by a governor, whom she appoints. Internally, Bermuda has a parliamentary system of government.
The premier is head of government and leader of the majority party in the House of Assembly. The cabinet is composed of 14 members selected by the premier from among members of the House of Assembly and the Senate.
The 40-member House is elected from 20 electoral districts (two representatives from each district) for a term not to exceed five years. The Senate, or reviewing house, serves concurrently with the House and has 11 membersfive appointed by the governor in consultation with the premier, three by the opposition leader, and three at the governors discretion.
