Alcohol Beverage Usage Policy The University recognizes that the consumption of alcohol by members of the University community at or above the age of 21 is a lawful activity and a matter of personal choice. The exercising of this right, however, requires knowledge, personal responsibility and responsibility to the community. In addition to these, the institution has the obligation to promote well being, to embark on reasonable enforcement of rules and regulations as a matter of institutional integrity, and to protect the University and state of Oregon from legal liability. Policy for Student Sponsored Events with Alcohol
Following is a set of policy restrictions, requirements and guidelines which constitute the framework for student-sponsored events that include alcohol.
  • Eastern Oregon University recognizes that the consumption of alcohol by members of the University community at or above the age of 21 is a lawful activity and a matter of personal choice. Rutgers University Policy on Alcohol Use
General Welcome/Mission Health Centers Services Departments ... Links/Resources UNIVERSITY POLICY ON THE USE OF ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES General Statement The University Policy on the Use of Alcoholic Beverages establishes a general framework for specific present and future campus or college rules and regulations on the use of alcohol. However, in addition to the establishment of basic policies and regulations, much remains to be considered concerning the use of alcoholic beverages at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. It must be recognized that here, as in society, the rational and responsible use of alcoholic beverages depends upon forms of teaching, conditioning, and social pressure which go beyond the purview of formal policies or regulations. Nevertheless, it may be said generally that the University expects its members to demonstrate respect and regard for the rights, property and persons of all individuals; to take responsibility for their own actions; and to act to reduce risks of damage and harm. In terms of regulation it may also be pointed out that the University enforces prohibition of the use of alcoholic beverages in the athletic facilities of the University and other specific restrictions. Any exceptions to these rules must be expressly authorized by the Senior Vice President and Treasurer. In addition, in order to discourage abuse of alcoholic beverages and assist those already in trouble, a program of alcohol education and training and an Alcohol Assistance Program (for those with alcohol related problems) have been established at the University.

    Concentration
  • Pace your drinking, allow time between
    drinks. Consider alternating non-alcoholic
    "decoy" drinks with those containing
alcohol, i.e. drinking plain orange juice
every other drink. Don't drink on an empty stomach, foods with fats and/or proteins slow
alcohol absorption. Keep track of how much you are drinking; know how much alcohol is
poured into every glass. Dilute distilled beverages, don't drink them straight. After the first few
drinks, reduce the amount of alcohol in each drink. Your taste buds will
be dulled and you won't be able to tell the difference. Switch to "light beer" (be sure it is a low alcohol one or try the "non-alcohol" beers) or "low alcohol" wines after the first few drinks. (Again, your taste buds will be dulled and you won't be able to tell the difference.) Avoid possible interactions between alcohol and other drugs (including certain foods and over-the-counter medications).

    • New Student Orientation . New Student Orientation (NSO), held the week before the start of fall classes, is designed to provide first-year students with information about the new issues and situations they may face as they begin college and live away from home, perhaps for the first time. Students discuss a number of alcohol and drug-related issues, including the dangers of excessive drinking, and the role alcohol plays in increasing the risk of violence and unwanted sexual encounters. Students are introduced to the multitude of non-alcohol-related activities that exist on campus and in the D.C. area.
