  • African Bird Club Founded in 1994 to provide a worldwide focus for African ornithology and encourage an interest in the conservation of the birds of the region. The Club promotes the work of existing regional societies and encourages birders to visit lesser known areas of the region and to actively search for threatened species. Members receive a twice-yearly color bulletin. American Ornithologists' Union Founded in 1883, the AOU is the oldest and largest organization in the New World devoted to the scientific study of birds. Although the AOU is primarily a professional organization, its membership of almost 4,000 includes many amateurs dedicated to the advancement of ornithological science.

26. Bird Clubs Of NJ
bird clubs of New Jersey Updates. bird clubs of New Jersey is a coalitionof the following parrot clubs The Central Jersey Bird Club;
http://www.realmacaw.com/pages/bird.html
Bird Clubs of New Jersey Updates Bird Clubs of New Jersey is a coalition of the following parrot clubs:
The purpose of this group is to act as a liaison between the member clubs and The NJ State Division of Fish, Game & Wildlife which regulates the possession of "exotics" kept as pets. We will also act as a legislative watchdog to protect the interests and rights of exotic bird owners and their birds throughout the state. We encourage all clubs in the state or those clubs out of state with members from New Jersey to become part of this very important undertaking.
These are the points we would like to see addressed
  • Clarify the terminology and definitions used in the regulations to reduce confusion
  • Exempt all captive birds held since the enactment of the Wild Bird Act of 1991 and their progeny from the Endangered Species provisions of NJAC 7:25-4.14 (b, c, d, and e)
  • Clarify the requirements for the various permit levels. Roll back the cost of the Hobby Permit to $10, and create a Hobby Breeder Permit for small breeders.
  • 27. Meeting Between Bird Clubs Of New Jersey And The Fish, Game And Wildlife Departm
    Meeting Between bird clubs of New Jersey. and the Fish, Game and WildlifeDepartment of New Jersey. Back to bird clubs Of New Jersey. ÿ
    http://www.realmacaw.com/pages/meeting.html
    Meeting Between Bird Clubs of New Jersey
    and the Fish, Game and Wildlife Department of New Jersey
    M T he Department has proposed that the Hobby permit for possession of exotic birds be changed and the yearly $20 fee be dropped. Instead, birds would receive a permit at the point of sale and a fee would be charged for each bird at the time of change of ownership. The amount of this fee is still to be determined. A T he Department suggested removal of the Patagonian Conure and The Ring-necked Parakeets from the list of birds whose possession is illegal in NJ as potentially dangerous species. Remaining on this list of birds whose possession is illegal in NJ is the Monk (or Quaker) Parakeet. A major point of discussion involved a proposal by the BC of NJ Regulatory Committee for the establishment of a Hobby Breeder Permit. The Department was open to this suggestion and a variety of proposals were discussed. It was agreed that a yearly permit fee substantially less than the current $100 fee was a goal. In addition, some mechanism for a per bird fee upon sale or change of ownership was also discussed. The details are still to be worked out, but the Department was clearly open to developing a permit structure that would be less expensive for the hobbyist who is breeding and selling a small number of birds per year. The distinction between a Hobby breeder and a pet shop/animal dealer also needs to be developed. T he Department responded to the suggestion by the Regulatory Committee to enlarge the list of species that are exempt from a permit by indicating that they were not able to entertain a change at this time, since the permit exempt list was specifically stated in the 1991 Wild Bird Act. A specific amendment to the Wild Bird Act could be proposed by the Department to expand the list, but is not planned at this time.

    Bird Clubs give you a wonderful opportunity to get together with others who share your passion. Clubs may have monthly meetings and invite guest speakers. They sponsor bird trips, usually led by one of their members. They may even publish a newsletter or have a web site. The most complete list of bird clubs in the U.S. and Canada can be found in "A Birder's Resource Guide" (ABA Membership Directory). The membership directory is free each year to American Birding Association members The Audubon Society has over 500 Chapters and each offers bird hikes. These are featured in the " Audubon Chapters " section of WildBirds.com. Why not start your own bird club? Perhaps the local Audubon Chapter would like to help you start a bird club that is a subset of their Chapter. WildBirds.com
