Introduction The following six Web sites were created as models to suggest ways to integrate the World Wide Web and videoconferencing into classroom learning. African-American History was chosen as a topic because of its importance, popularity and the wealth of Internet resources available on the topic. What we hope to add to this richness are some specific strategies for integrating the Web into learning. So rather than merely send learners to a Web site, we've arranged separate formats designed to support different kinds of learning. Read the blurbs below or check out Working the Web for Education to help you decide which activities you might want to use.

Lessons to Celebrate Black History Month!
February is the annual observance of Black History Month, a time to recognize the achievements, contributions, and culture of African Americans. This week, Education World offers ten innovative activities to start your celebration of Black History Month and to help you incorporate the African American experience into your curriculum all year long! Included: Challenge students to create ABC books, murals, and more about famous African Americans! This February marks the 25th anniversary of Black History Month. In 1926, Dr. Carter Godwin Woodson , an African American historian, writer, and educator, established Negro History Week to honor the contributions of African Americans. Often called the "Father of Black History," Woodson chose February for this observance because the birthdays of abolitionist Frederick Douglass and President Abraham Lincoln fall in this month. During the early 1970s, the name of the celebration was changed to Black History Week. It was expanded to Black History Month in 1976.

Here I have tried to reflect my own best work, and my school's contribution to it. However, I can honestly say that the process has caused me to learn so much about portfolios in general, and the specific applications of that process in particular. "For instance, although mathematics does not traditionally contribute to writing portfolios, there are many resources which provide for the possibility of written reflection on the mathematical process, making such exercises perfect portfolio pieces. I have found that all of the core content professional associations support the writing process, and the websites of those organizations are good primary sources for writing prompts and portfolio lesson ideas. I found that through researching, analyzing, and writing about those resources, my understanding of this process has increased a great deal.
