http://www.haverford.edu/relg/sells/postings/kissinger.html
The U.S., Bosnia, and Henry Kissinger's Lie
Mon, 16 Oct 95 On the Charlie Rose Show, Sept 14, 1995, Henry Kissinger argued for what would be in effect an ethnic-partition and religious apartheid in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Kissinger urged a dividing up the country between Croatia and Serbia and, in effect, forcing the Muslims (and any Bosnians who wanted a state not based on "ethnic-cleansing") into a ghetto in the center. The basis of Kissinger's argument was his claim that "There is no Bosnian culture." Ironically, the person who has done most to disprove Kissinger's remark is none other than Serb General Ratko Mladic, who has spent four years busily trying to destroy the vast testimony to Bosnian culture. He burned down the National Library in Sarajevo with three days of shelling by incendiary grenadesthe largest book burning in modern history. Over a million books and 100,000 manuscripts and rare books were burned, including much of the ancient South Slavic heritage of Bosnia. He selected out and shelled the Oriental Institute manuscript collection in Sarajevo, with its collection of 5000 Bosnian manuscripts in Hebrew, Arabic, Turkish, Persian, and Adzamijski (Bosnian Slavic written in Arabic script). He shelled repeatedly and deliberately the National Museum with its priceless collection of Bosnian art. A few objects, such as the Sarajevo Haggadah were saved by courageous Bosnians (Croat, Muslim, Serb, and Jewish) who risked their lives to save as much of their Bosnian cultural heritage as possible. One of his soldiers even lined up the Bosnian art collection of a Sarajevan artist (who was Serb) and "executed" them by drilling them with machine-gun fire.

CROATIA
an Overview of its History, Culture and Science
Dedicated to the memory of Gordan Lederer Dear reader,
When you meet a new friend or colleague, you are necessarily confronted with his cultural and historical background, peculiarities of his own, that are sometimes difficult to conceive. Having this in mind, we believe you will understand our wish to give you a better insight into what could be called a Croatian cultural heritage, at least in a rapid and sketchy way. The connections with other European cultures are, as you will see, deep and longstanding. We shall also try to intersperse this hypertext with some interesting facts by which Croatia is recognizable. In short, we start by describing an extremely complex and interesting entity, unique in Europe - the Republic of Croatia, or in Croatian - Republika Hrvatska HR

Business Attire GREETINGS AND COURTESIES A handshake is the accepted greeting in Bosnia. A man usually waits for a woman to extend her hand. The younger person usually greets first. People are friendly and make eye contact in all their interactions. In the Serb areas of Bosnia, a person will say their last name when they shake hands. Family and close friends, especially women, may embrace or kiss lightly on alternate cheeks; Serbs may kiss three times. Use professional and conventional titles, followed by surnames. Only good friends call each other by first names. BUSINESS ETHIC AND FRAMEWORK DECISION MAKING The 'self-management' principles and market-oriented business methods practiced under Tito may be mitigated by the consensus-seeking customs of socialism. Decisions in a company may be made largely by consultation. However, if the top manager of a company is a Serb, an authoritative, top-down structure may exist. Given the open, friendly, and direct way of most Balkan peoples, it may be appropriate to inquire directly how decisions are made, and who the key decision maker is. It is advisable to know the ethnicity of your business associates, since this may influence their style of decision making.

The following is the text of an address presented by Bosnia Action Coalition co-founder Andras Riedlmayer at the Charity Dinner to benefit the Community of Bosnia Foundation, which is working to help rebuild Bosnian cultural institutions devastated after years of attacks by nationalist extremists. The event was held at La Canelle Rouge, Domaine Les Pailles in Mauritius on 7 March 1997, under the patronage of the president of the republic. Other guests included the country's minister of justice and human rights, the U.S. ambassador to Mauritius, members of Amnesty International, educators, and civic and religious dignitaries. It was sponsored by Comite pour la Bosnie.
Your Excellency Mr President, Mr Minister, Mr Ambassador, Dr Koenig, ladies and gentlemen. Good evening, and thank you for your warm welcome and for your kind words. I feel honored and delighted to have the chance to visit your beautiful country and the opportunity to speak to you tonight. I would like to begin by expressing my gratitude and appreciation to the members of the Comite pour la Bosnie and to all those whose hard work, generosity and vision have helped make this evening's event possible. What brings us together tonight is our concern for Bosnia, a distant place that few people had heard of before the tragic events of the past five years.
