WebCT Interviews - WebCT is a popular software for placing courses online. Steve Cavrak, Assistant Director for Academic Computing Services and Howard Davis, Assistant Professor, Distance Learning Network, answer some questions about WebCT that shed some light on its uses and effectiveness.
Interview with Steve Cavrak
Q: What sort of courses are onlineeither as fully online or as hybrids?
A: What's online is pretty much a sample of the complete spectrum of the university curriculum. (With 400 course projects and 275 or so active courses, this is not really surprising. WebCT currently has a bit more than 10 % of the total university curriculum - for less than the cost of a single professor :)
Q: What about the large lecture courses?
A: Introductory large lecture course with lecture notes, quizes, grades, and self study links. Titles include Anatomy and Physiology (ANPS 19 and ANPS 20, two semester sequence for medical school), Botany (survey courses, Botany 004 and Botany 006), Chemistry ("freshman chemistry"), Mathematics (Math 16), Plant and

photographs. John Davidson (1878-1970) was born in Aberdeen, Scotland and graduated from Gordon's College. As botany assistant and later curator of the Botany Museum at the University of Aberdeen from 1893 to 1911 he developed significant skills in plant classification and general biology. In 1911, he was appointed as British Columbia's first Provincial Botanist. Davidson established Canada's first botanical garden at Essondale's Colony Farm near New Westminster. In 1916, the 25,000 plants were transferred to the new Point Grey site of University of British Columbia and the garden continued to develop under his supervision. Davidson joined the UBC faculty in 1917 as an instructor of Botany and remained at the university until his retirement in 1945. He was founder and, until 1937, president of the Vancouver Natural History Society.
