The Baker County High School bowling team traveled, for it’s third consecutive week, out to Columbia County to compete with the Tigers. The girls faced off against some stiff competition and struggled to match up with the Tigers throughout the night. The final score/averages for the match were the Baker County Wildcats with 89 and Columbia County Tigers with a hefty 121. The week featured some new names on the top list of bowlers showing some promising individual improvement. Tina Orton who bowled an impressive 111 bowled the highest score of the night for the cats. Lacey West bowled a nice score of 92 and was followed by Chariot Moore with an 87. Shannon Smallwood also displayed her fine bowling abilities by rolling up with an 85. Rita Larry, Hillary Phillips, and Brynne Payne all bowled well and finished with the same score of 84. Tami Richardson rounded out the top bowlers with her score of 82. The Wildcat bowlers are looking ahead to match this week against the squad from Ft. White. The match will be held in Lake City due to the lack of an alley in Ft. White or here in Macclenny. The girls’ record now stands at 0-3 and will be bowling hard in hopes for their first win.

Hilltop Times staff With no command tournament finish higher than fifth place, the Hill Bowling Center has put together its best team in years in an attempt to bring home the Air Force Materiel Command bowling tournament championship. "I can honestly say that this year Hill has put together one of the strongest teams," said three-time command teamer Billy Bell. "It's going to depend on how we prepare during our practice session, and if we can make the adjustments. I believe we have just as good a chance as any of the teams we will compete against." With a respectable team average of 184, the Hill bowling team mixes experience with fresh blood. Bell, a 216 average bowler, heads the list of Hill's experienced competitors. Two-time returners Liz Peidl and Dave Brainard, 145 and 219 average bowlers respectively, believe that their experience will help them focus more quickly and will help them avoid earlier tournament jitters. "I think [the experience] will make it easier because I went down two years ago not as well prepared," said Peidl, whose last tournament appearance was two years ago at Kelly AFB, Texas. "I think I'm more familiar with it going in."
