Manhattan is of course an island, with the East River to the east, The Hudson river to the west, New York Harbor to the south and the Harlem River to the north.
Boat and ferry service was unreliable, particularly in winter, when ice jams often prevented boats from crossing.
Any crossing of water by a man-made structure would be a huge undertaking. But by the mid-1800's, it became apparent that bridges were necessary, not only for the movement of people, but for the very economic health of the region. Not only did people need to move back and forth between job and home, but goods could be transported into and out of Manhattan much more easily.
The construction of the Brooklyn Bridge was the first major step in linking Manhattan Island to the surrounding areas. At the time, it was no small task just conceiving of such a thing. The Brooklyn Bridge was only the first of an amazing system of complex bridges, and later, tunnels, built to connect Manhattan with the rest of the region. Introduction General Transportation King's Valley ... Projects BRIDGES ÇAÐLAYAN BRIDGE
The bridge which is known as either "çalak" or "çelenk" is a remnant of Daniþmend. It was built by Ýltekin Gazi in the 11th century. It is in the Helvacý district in Amasya on the Yeþilýrmak river. It is 70 metres in lenght and 4 metres in width. It has been repaired in different times and it has six arches.
MEYDAN (SQUARE, STATION) BRIDGE
It is located above Yeþilýrmak in Khatun district. The middle of the bridge stands upright. The bridge has got four divisions and was built with yellow cube shaped stones. Later, its base was widened and then metal railings were added.
KUÞ (KÜNÇ) BRIDGE
It is located in Þamlar District, upper-side of the Yeþilýrmak. It was the work of the Seljuks, built by Sultan Mesud's daughter Hundi Hatun. For a long time Kuþ Bridge had been called Hundi Hatun Bridge. The arches of the bridge are round and all are at the same size. The bridge was built with stones end bricks. It has four under divisions. It was also called Kunç bridge.
ALÇAK (LOW) BRIDGE
The Low Bridge is on the Yeþilýrmak, opposite the Rock Tombs of Pontic Kings through the line of Girls Palace, between Hatuniye District and Ziya Pasha boulvard. It is the best example of Roman Period's architecture. It has concrete platform having four columns built of brick settled on Roman arches. In 1865, a wooden bridge was built by Ziya Pasha using the arches as a foot. After that bridge was ruined in 1882, it was rebuilt by using brick in 1883 and it was restored in 1940.

THE CENTURY MAGAZINE APRIL, 1908 THE RAILWAY BEAUTIFUL BY SYLVESTER BAXTER WITH PICTURES BY HARRY FENN Great railway companies, as a rule, very naturally lay stress upon the attractiveness of the scenery along their lines; they spend enormous sums in the production and circulation of illustrated literature to make it known. Incidental to this attractiveness, in no small degree, are the improvements carried out in many parts of the country by various companies under policies of enlightened self-interest. Indeed, few things can make a more agreeable impression upon the traveler than glimpses of well-ordered and beautiful surroundings at the way-stations, caught perhaps only for a flashing instant in passing, or satisfying the eye during pauses that otherwise would be tedious. Where a railway passes through a town, the community commonly presents its least attractive aspect. The noise, the smoke, the dust, and the cinders make property that borders a railway line undesirable for residential purposes. Consequently it is left to the poorest sort of occupancy. A railway is customarily lined, if not by ugly factories, by squalid tenements, or by the shabby little houses of the poorer classes, with unkempt back yards, and outbuildings Aspects of this sort commonly convey about the only feature of a place obtained by passers-through. There are thousands of towns and villages in the United States that for hundreds of thousands of persons are associated only with scenes of this sort. In truth, however, the impressions made by these strips of shabbiness along the railway are as erroneous, as those which might be derived from a trip through the main sewer of a town. Just beyond, they might behold pleasant, tree-shaded streets, attractive homes, and a community well equipped with good public and business buildings; in short, a place where prosperity abides and good civic standards obtain.

Aerial treehouses can usually be built within six weeks of engineering. Construction should take no longer than a few days, depending on the customer's requirements. Aerial treehouses can be built at any height in the tree provided there is enough strength to support the house. Aerial treehouses are made f quality timber giving long durability outdoors. Aerial treehouses are a great source of fun for all ages, whether it is kids playing, adults relaxing or for entertaining. Almost any extras can be included or added to the treehouse on request, e.g. beds, rope ladder, windsocks etc. Most requests seem to be for the treehouse to be sited lower to the ground making it more accessible and safer.
