Women's On-line Directory
In our ministry's three-year service plan, we pledged to develop a province-wide perspective for delivery of women’s services, including an inventory of all services available to women. We have just created a new on-line directory of government services for British Columbia women. Women's Services Directory A comment I hear time and again from individuals and community service organizations is how daunting it can be to track down information about a government program, or to find a first point-of-contact for a particular service. Through BC Connects — the province's main Internet gateway of on-line service information — we've gathered together for the first time a wealth of information on programs and services for women provided by the government of British Columbia.

Press release - July 13, 2002 For Immediate Release July 13, 2002 Teacher leaders from across Canada unanimously condemn British Columbia government actions (CTF News Service- St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador) Delegates attending the Annual General Meeting of the Canadian Teachers' Federation (CTF) issued a strong and unanimous proclamation today in support of their teacher colleagues in British Columbia. "The B.C. government's draconian approach will hurt thousands of students who will witness school closures, an increase in the size of their classes and some of their teachers being laid off," says CTF President Doug Willard. Neil Worboys, President of the British Columbia Teachers' Federation (BCTF) adds: "Our members have had a legislative onslaught on their bargaining rights including limitations on the right to strike and a reduced scope of conditions that can be bargained. The loss of bargaining rights will also result in a shift in the relationship balance in schools between teachers and management. Teachers are more vulnerable to arbitrary actions by administrators." The B.C. government measures are expected to force 57 schools to close their doors, to lay off approximately 1,500 teachers and to strip away the bargaining rights of those who will remain.
