British Literature Beowulf: A New Translation ISBN Return to Welcome Page , Edited by A.S.G. Edwards and Julia Boffey There are approximately two hundred medieval manuscripts at the Norlin Library, mainly fragments and including some extraordinarily beautiful illuminations. This is one of the largest collections of its kind in the western United States. In the first catalogue to describe the collection in detail, A.S.G. Edwards and Julia Boffey provide meticulous accounts of all the items, including details of provenance for many. Sample pages or images from the manuscripts complete the volume. Return to Welcome Page Medieval Welsh Poems: An Anthology , Translated by Richard Loomis and Dafydd Johnston
Dafydd ap Gwilym: The Poems (published by MRTS) has been widely acclaimed. The introduction is comprehensive, and supplemented by prefaces to each poet, generous commentary, a guide to Welsh pronunciation, and an extensive bibliography as well as maps. The volume is a delight to use. I was in a pleasant place today

    • English 107-09: World Literature
    • English 220-22: Introduction to the Major
English 220-22 is a three-course sequence required of all English majors. The sequence is meant to introduce new and prospective majors to the full range of literature in English, and the various methods and modes of literary history, criticism and theory required to understand it. The first term will cover English literature from the earliest example ("Caedmon's Hymn") to Shakespeare. The second term will cover English literature from the late renaissance of the early seventeenth century to the Augustan period of the late-18th century. The third quarter will begin with Blake and the Romantics and end with postmodern fiction and poetry. The whole sequence will provide students with skills needed to succeed in subsequent English courses, and the knowledge needed to construct a program to suit their interests. Medieval Studies
