April 13 - April 19, 2000 Graceful dancing rings in Cambodian New Year
The younger Cambodian generation revived their culture through TUCA's New Year celebration. By Jigsha Desai The Cambodian New Year was celebrated in style as Cambodians in Philadelphia got a chance to take part in a celebration sponsored by the Temple University Cambodian Association (TUCA) last Friday. The event was organized and produced by the members of TUCA. Their hard work was clearly evident as performances progressed without any glitches. The main events everyone looked forward to were two dance performances by members of TUCA. John Huynh, a sophomore at Drexel University, said, "I expected to see cultural and traditional stuff." He also said that Drexel's Cambodian Association already had their New Year celebration prior to this one. Thanh Thach, a freshman at Upper Darby High School "came for the fun of bringing in the Cambodian New Year." TUCA president Channy Vonn decided that unlike last year's fashion show, they would prepare two dances this year.

Autobiography: CSS Adviser John D'Amicantonio
My interest in the Cambodian community began in 1990 when the director of the University Library suggested I take over the "Cambodian Project." He was among the first people on campus to recognize the vast cultural wealth in the local Cambodian population and he encouraged me to develop the library collection to represent that wealth, but also to get involved with the local Cambodian community. As a result, I began attending CSS meetings and making myself available to the Cambodian students at CSULB. I have had the privilege of working with the Cambodian Student Society as the advisor for the last several years. I say it has been a privilege because of the dedication and devotion to service I have seen in the organization's officers and members during my
time as advisor . Not only has the club published a newsletter,
sponsored a scholarship and conducted regular campus meet ings, it has also provided the CSULB and local Long Beach community with a culture show every year. In addition, CSS has provided a place for Cambodian students to feel a part of CSULB. Many Cambodian freshmen seek out the club which ultimately gives them a "home" on campus.
I made three trips to Cambodia since 1996. Each time I have
