University gets five new Canada Research Chairs
Announcement brings current total to 87 by Dana Yates June 25, 2002 U of T received five new Canada Research Chairs (CRC) in an announcement by the federal government on June 25. Representing an annual investment of $800,000 for the university, this latest funding will go towards researchers in math and physical and biomedical sciences. "We are pleased that new members of the U of T community will benefit from the generous support of the CRC program, " says Peter Munsche, acting vice-president, research and international relations. "This injection of funding will further strengthen our pioneering research network, which works in a variety of ways to build Canada's economy and improve the lives of all Canadians." Created in 2000, the CRC program enables Canadian universities, in collaboration with their affiliated research institutes and hospitals, to conduct world-class research. Over a five-year period, universities are allocated chairs based on the proportion of funding they receive from each of the three federal granting councils. U of T is slated to receive 267 chairs and this newest round of recipients brings the university's total of occupied chairs to 87.

    http://www.highroad.com/success/cs-aol.html
    AOL Canada
Taking Ownership of Online Child Safety in Canada Challenge AOL Canada Inc., a strategic alliance between AOL Time Warner and Royal Bank, was often perceived as a U.S.-based giant trying to infiltrate the Canadian online market with American content, in turn compromising Canadian culture. AOL Canada, in fact, focused its business on partnering with Canadian organizations while also taking an active role in the community. The company wanted to showcase this to consumers by raising awareness of an important issue: online child safety. By taking ownership of this highly emotional issue, AOL Canada recognized that it could raise its profile as a caring, Canadian organization while also making people more aware of the potential dangers lurking online - and what they can do to keep their children safe. Solution The perfect opportunity to tackle the challenge was to commission an independent research study about online child safety in Canada and build a national public relations campaign around key findings from the study. High Road recommended POLLARA, a research firm with strong expertise in the consumer market, to conduct a study that offers insight into the opinions and attitudes of Canadian parents towards online child safety and what measures they take, if any, to protect their children online. Leveraging key findings from the Online Child Safety Study, High Road launched an aggressive media relations campaign that positioned AOL Canada as the leading expert and organization spearheading online child safety in Canada.
