An Historical Building
The Simcoe Public Library is located in the former Norfolk County Jail building which was constructed in 1848 and the two storey building served as a jail until February of 1978.
In November of 1983, construction of the new premises for the library was begun, which included renovations of and a new addition to the old jail building. Now, all that remains of the former jail are the exterior walls and the window openings.
The Simcoe Public Library building is part of the historic Governor Simcoe Square which was declared an Historic Site by the province of Ontario in 1975. The town of Simcoe designated the former jail building under the Ontario Heritage Act in 1982. Top of the page

    The Canadian Forces Liaison Council
    History
  • Based on the situation described in chapter 1, it was decided to emulate the British, Australian and American employer support organizations. The predecessor of the Canadian Forces Liaison Council (CFLC), the National Employer Support Committee (NESC), was established in 1978. The Chief Reserves and Cadets initiated the revitalization of NESC in 1990. In December 1992 the name of the committee was changed to Canadian Forces Liaison Council to reflect the renewed efforts to enhance the relationship between civilian employers and reservists. Mission
  • The mission of the CFLC, which derives from the mandate originally established in 1992, is to "enhance the availability of primary reservists for military training and operations". This is accomplished by obtaining the voluntary support of employers and educational institutions for the Primary Reserve so that primary reservists do not suffer penalty or loss as a result of their military service. CFLC also encourages the hiring of reservists by civilian employers. Objectives
  • Several objectives, in order of priority, derive from the mandate and mission:

There are two sources for birth, marriage and death records:
Church records (parish registers) contain the references to baptisms, marriages and burials. For you to locate relevant records, you must know the place and the religious denomination. Religious denomination is indicated in census records
In the late 1800s and early 1900s, the provinces and territories began keeping civil registration of births, marriages and deaths, often called vital statistics. Before that time, the only source for that information is church records.

    General Introduction
Go for Green - The Active Living and Environment Program, encourages outdoor physical activity that protects, enhances or restores the environment. When we Go for Green, we improve our own health, through active living and the health of the planet, by being good environmental citizens. Gardening is active living. Is it the second most popular physical activity in Canada, it offers the opportunity for lifelong participation, and can be a positive contributor to the natural environment. One of the most positive gardening trends over the last few yearsalong with the growing commitment of gardeners to organic practiceshas been the increased interest in native plant gardening. People across Canada are looking to the natural landscapes of woodlands, meadows, prairies and wetlands for inspiration in their gardens, recreating back and front yard habitats that are based on models found in nature. The environmental reasons for gardening with native plants are positive and compelling. Native plant gardens:
