Do Diet Foods Work?

Total Cancer Management in Small Animals by Susan G Wynn, DVM 'complementary' approaches to cancer treatment, it is important to consider all of these things. First question: is chemotherapy or radiation appropriate? Most people balk at the idea of either, drawing upon mental pictures of wasted, bald, human cancer patients in constant pain. Fortunately, we do not need to subject our pets to heroic measures, and you are free to make the decision one way or another (not as easy to do for a human patient). It is important to note, however, that dogs and cats seem to tolerate these treatments much better than people do. In addition, there are certain cancer types that are very responsive to these conventional, if drastic treatments. Surgical removal of certain types of tumors may well be the only way to stop these cancers in their tracks, for instance. Many holistic veterinarians believe that cancer is a severe and acutely threatening disease, and that the response must be proportional. Others believe that using exclusively natural treatments may rebalance this symptom of 'chronic disease' 'seed' tumors elsewhere in the body.

Cancer- special diet needs Q: Hi! My roommate and I are owned by six cats. Unhappily, one off them (Otto -The Great, or sometimes " 'Lil Guy"), is dying of cancer. I don't believe that we can save him, but would like to make sure that he has the best nutrition possible I know that nutrition plays an important role in fighting off cancer, but have no idea what to give that him that will help. He's losing his sense of smell and a bit of his appetite, so feeding him is getting more and more difficult. I'm willing to expect a miracle, but want to make sure I've done all I can. Can you recommend a specific diet or certain supplements? Do you know of a good source? What should I be looking for (and watch out for)? Thanks for your time and effort! A: At present, there are some studies (mostly done at

DIETARY CHOICES PLAY AN IMPORTANT ROLE IN REDUCING CANCER RISK
Cancer is not a single disease, but the generic name for more than 100 diseases, all having in common the uncontrolled reproduction of abnormal cells. Although scientists are only now beginning to understand the causes and growth of cancer, there exists a large and growing body of evidence showing that the foods we choose each day play a major part in cancer prevention.
LIFESTYLE CHOICES INFLUENCE CANCER RISK
Scientists have long estimated that a large percentage of our cancer risk is related to our lifestyle choices. The international report on cancer prevention from the American Institute for Cancer Research, Food, Nutrition and the Prevention of Cancer: a global perspective, found that 30% to 40% of all cancers are directly linked to the foods we eat, the exercise we get and how well we watch our weight. And the report estimates that 30% of cancers can be prevented by not using tobacco. What this means is that we have the potential through our daily food and lifestyle choices to make a major impact on the cancer risk we each face in our lives.
The cancer prevention opportunities offered by research and education programs in diet, nutrition and cancer are enormous. It has only been in the last 15 to 20 years that research in diet and cancer has been given more attention and has begun to attract the levels of funding that can bring strong results. Today an increasing understanding of the role of vitamins, minerals, fats, fiber and phytochemicals offers each of us the opportunity to make simple changes for lower cancer risk.

HEALTH-CARIBBEAN: Cancer Deaths Rise as Lifestyles Change
by Avian Joseph PORT OF SPAIN, Feb 24 (IPS) - Catherine Nurse, 48, had her left breast removed late last year. About two months before the operation, she felt two lumps and "prayed it wouldn't be that." A mother of seven, she was still breast feeding her three- year-old son and had been told that women do not get cancer when breast feeding. On the day of the diagnosis, desperate for comfort, she carried her baby to the hospital, fearing the worst. "I sat down holding my child, and when the doctor gave me the bad news, I paused a little bit and said: "Alright, you know best." It is this quiet courage that has sustained Nurse through the trauma of losing one breast and all the side effects associated with chemotherapy, including hair loss. Cancer is the second highest cause of death in several Caribbean islands after heart disease. Breast cancer is on the increase, especially among women of African descent.

10. Ginger And Her Diet For Her Hemangiosarcoma
Homemade canine diet for hemangiosarcoma. Includes resources for this ailment along with Hemangiopericytomas and Hemangiomas.
http://www.eattheapple.com/ginger
Hello to everyone who finds this site. It is now December 23rd, 2002 as I redo this web page. My dog (Ginger) collapsed Dec. 23rd, 2000 while I was playing with her. A tumor on her spleen had ruptured which caused the collapse. She had a splenectomy three days later. I received her biopsy report on Jan. 4th, 2001 which showed hemangiosarcoma.
After seeing a Veterinary Oncologist and talking to my veterinarian, I decided not to go with chemotherapy. The oncologist felt that with this type of cancer, the chemo could give her possibly a couple more months, with no guarantee on how she would respond to chemo.
Ginger has always been an extremely active dog and after healing from her surgery, she was as if nothing had ever happened. My vet practices holistics and felt that a strict diet would be best for her. I decided to go with the diet and skip the chemo.
Ginger is doing great and still catching frisbees. I really don't know if she would be as she is now if we pursued chemo. I feel as if I made the right decision. I wouldn't want her any other way.
I am including her diet in this web page. Just in case any of you are interested in this diet, keep in mind that these proportions are for a 40 pound dog. I would also consult with a vet who practices holistics before making any diet changes.

Breast Cancer:
Surviving and Winning 2
Thirty years ago a young woman diagnosed with breast cancer would most likely have undergone a radical mastectomy and had her ovaries removed. Today, not only is breast cancer likely to be detected earlier, but its treatment is less radical and more effective. Now breast cancer is likely to result in a lumpectomy or a modified mastectomy, and combined with modern chemotherapy and radiation therapy, survival rates are dramatically increased. Tomorrow's approach will go even further, by preventing or even reversing cancer cell growth. As we speak, scientists are learning how cancer cells work and finding new and better treatments. Breast Cancer: Surviving and Winning 2 discusses medical breakthroughs, alternative approaches, and the personal stories of women who are part of tomorrow's approach to surviving breast cancer. It is not just about research - it is about making these research discoveries matter to us, to our mothers, to our sisters, to our friends, and, of course, to our daughters. New technologies for diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer are part of our continuing assault on this treacherous disease. In

How to Calm Down by Fred L. Miller To buy this book, click here Shifting Gears At any given moment during a typical day, does your blood pressure rise, your pulse rate hit 10 percent over normal, and your breathing seem to stop? Sound familiar? If so, read on. Once upon a time, I worked all day at a hamburger stand and went to school at night. It wasn't a bad job, but after eight hours of dealing with customers and coworkers, I was in no mood to concentrate in class. I had one hour between the end of work and the beginning of school. I was agitated and needed to calm down, to shift gears. I just didn't know how. I then began asking other people how to relax. They told me to go to Las Vegas. Go fishing. Get a date. None of these ideas would have helped me during that hour between work and school.

If you cat is prone to illness, switching to high quality food helps immensely. Anything that supports their immune system. Shallow glass water dishes are the safest. Who would ever have thought that plastic being hard to clean might create the feline acne seen in some cats? Who would have thought that some of those imported ceramic dishes would have toxins leech into the water? or metallic bowls give the water a tainted taste besides also getting into the water? or distilled water eliminating vital minerals?
