Contents Aerospace education is a big project within schools and with youth groups such as Girl Guides (Sparks), who can earn aviation badges , and Boy Scouts. We offer the Air Bears Program Kindergarten participatory role-playing) and the Theory of Flight (intermediate-level elementary science lesson) , teaching young children about careers in aviation, and generating excitement about aviation in general. The Young Eagles program offers children a chance to fly in an airplane for the first time. 99s present at Careers Day , with a presentation featuring a full range of aviation-type avocations and not just "pilot". All courses are offered for elective credit ORIENTATION TO THE AVIATION INDUSTRY 9355 Semester Class Grade 9 Prerequisite: None, however preference given to Aviation SLC students Standards Package: Career Investigation (HS803) Lab Fee: None This class will introduce students to the three main areas of aviation including general aviation, airlines, and military/government agencies. Students will study aircraft components, types and uses of aircraft, and principles of flight. Students will also study basic aviation weather theory, aviation marketing, and aviation history. This class will offer an introduction to job requirements and duties for many aviation careers. FAA mentors will work with students in this class on a weekly basis. This course is a prerequisite for all other aviation courses except Principles of Aerospace Technology (9344) and Space: A Perspective (9339). AIRCRAFT DESIGN 9337 Quarter Class Grade 10 Prerequisite: Orientation to the Aviation Industry Standards Package: Technical Reading (HS102) Lab Fee: $20 In this course, students will be introduced to the basics of aircraft design. They will also build and fly radio- controlled gliders. Blueprint reading skills, problem solving, and quality of construction will be stressed while building gliders. The ability to work as a team member will be needed to successfully complete this course.

As a centerpiece of its NCF partnership, Parker Hannifin this year established a $50,000 scholarship endowment to support aerospace engineering undergraduates.
